aughakillymaude community mummers centre

I had quite a wonderous experience. I and a friend contacted Jim who arranged for a very accommodating man John who generously shared his time with us by opening the center and explaining colorfully the intentions, meanings and the activities of their center. I was particularly interested since by gggrandfather was from Aughakillyumaude and part of the mummers many years ago, and i never knew anything about Aughakillymaude where he came from Ireland as he had emigrated to America. Visiting the center made my family history more real to me and I would have loved to see one of their performances but could only stay in the area a short time. They even helped me find heritage info. I recommend it for anyone wanting to understand what seems mysterious, dramatic and colorful productions but have deeper meanings and teachings in their storytelling.by Annemarie Eveland

upon a recent visit to the mummers centre which was all a bit strange to begin with.it was'nt opened then we rang the phone number to be told to come back in half an hour,an hour later he still had'nt showed up but a lovely girl who was there studying brought us in and showed us around,telling us a bit about the mummers,keeping it light hearted as our 6 year old daughter and 3 year old son were present.just as we were about to leave,jim ledwith came in and all of a sudden it started to feel creepy.my husband asked where there any places we could go to see the mummers doing what they do.mr ledwith answered by saying yes you will find us all in cavan at 6pm on thursday,all the paedofiles,robbers and thieves!!!!!!! i thought this was totally inappropriate,especially in front of my children.what are mummy and daddy supposed to say to that question when they ask what a paedofile is???? if any of you with chilren were thinking of visiting here i would advise not to.
