Loved all of it especially the tower and the grroyne with all the historic facts provided on the stones display boards
Okay, so the town and pier area is, allegedly, very run down; so don't go there! But if you live in Essex, I can't think of a better beach to visit for the day, either with children or as a couple. We avoid the pier area and head for the bit just before the Naze, ie the Naze Tower at the top of the hill. It could be difficult to find parking at the weekends in the summer, but we have usually been lucky. It's never really crowded, and you've got lots of golden sand.It can be very windy, so take a wind break, but on our most recent visit in February, it was glorious. We were even able to take our winter coats off. One downside is that the relatively new toilet block there is only open during the summer period (there used to be other, grotty, toilets where the play park is now). It means that you may have to drive to the toilets at the Naze, which are not all that nice to use.We didn't leave enough time for this, but you can combine your visit with some fossil hunting on the beach. On the way back towards the town, there's a fish & chip shop before you get to the town (near the foundary?), but we've not been there for many years (I believe it closed at one point).
We went with our kids and our grandkids to a secret place on the beach........ And we sorted through tons of shale but found 44 fossilised shark teeth between us in 3 hours that just flew by!!!!!It really is great. We also got a bag of petrified wood for the grandkids to take to school tomorrow.. No rain but a lot of wind but we really enjoyed ourselves and Oliver loved his 5th birthday adventure
I travel here at least once a month to walk my dog Koda along from Frinton. I enjoy the tacky relaxed atmosphere here. It really is plastic fantastic here with buckets, spades and floats for sale wherever you look. The new promotion of these fossil walking tours can be seen on posters along the promenade and the shops. This is a walking tour which I will be investigating further. It would be of great interest to my day out in Walton. I just love learning about the sea in so many ways. I would travel here just to undertake the fossil tour.
This is one of the best beaches in England for Shark tooth fossils if you go here and look in the shells you will see many sharks teeth which are free to take home and collect. They wash up from the sea and many are millions of years old, also if you go here you can go on the pier which is very run down but has a cheeryier and more welcoming atmosphere than clactons kiss me quick foulness. I would say also to go to the Tower on the naze and the forested area located on the top. BEWARE! of the red cliffs though, these are crumbly and treacherous and will fall under your feet dragging you to doom. While here visit the pill boxes during the war these were filled with machine guns and marines who were ready to defend Walton from Nazi villainy. Walton is the best beach in essex its less busy than clacton or southend and has millions of shark fossils. Go there.
We found the sandy beach to be very clean, great for walking along as the sand is fairly firm and if the tide is in there is still a promenade to walk along.Theres a traditional pier with arcade and just past this are very pretty beach huts - worth a look at as they are all painted beautifully and so many of them. There are plenty of shops and cafes around, public loos and plenty to do.The beach is sectioned in areas so that dogs are welcome in certain places. If you venture up to the Naze Tower the beach is quite different and more clay like, fossils can be found. In summer months the Tower is open and cafe, sadly not when we visited on New Years Day, but looks very interesting. We found the people and businesses in the area all to be friendly and welcoming, made our holiday a very happy one.
The beach is nice and clean and even at high tide there is still plenty of nice sandy beach left. When the tide is out you can walk ankle deep on the nice flat sand under the pier and all the way to Frinton and hardly find a rock. It is also close to all of the shops and cafes etc, Well worth a visit.
Sandy beach and fossils if you go north of tower there is a great cafe at top of cliff! Worth the climb! Lovely home made cake!
Walton-on-the-naze is a great beach to chill. It's very clean - great for a walk or a picnic! However, there is nothing special about it and if you don't live close, it's not worth the travel.
We walked the length of the esplanade which includes Frinton-on-Sea. On one side it was wall to wall beach huts of various colours, shapes and sizes and on the other was the beach and sea. This was a very windy day and with the walkway being below the banking there was good protection from the elements. The area was clean and seemed to be well maintained; this is a walk that will be repeated I guess.
Great for kids and collecting bits to take home in there bucket for home or school, several rock pools left when tide goes out great for net dipping ,and very safe and sandy beach, ideal for walking even with shoes on as sandy beach is quite firm under foot, watch tide times though as sea comes to the top and over! also fun to dodge the sea spray or sit and watch other people get wet ! lots of dog walkers but all were very friendly people and didnt see any dog mess!
looked like a lovely beach but not in the rain and wind it is very close to the resort so would be lovely for swimming
lovely beach, gently shelving so ideal for small childen, with soft sand for great sandcastle making!!
This beach went on for miles, it wasn't crowded at all an very clean from what we saw. Lovely an sandy perfect for a paddle.
Love this beach though watch out for the tide times !Work has been carried out to preserve the cliff from erosion
