we were staying in Bucknell with our 3 dogs .I had googled this pub before we left and thought it sounded perfect for what we wanted. As we have an elderly dog , my partner drove the car to the sun and ran back to us at bucknell, then we walked 7k to the The Sun on a beautiful sunday afternoon. We were all made really welcome and the dogs made a fuss of.At one stage the pub had more dogs in there than people .we had a few drinks and headed back. Its a great pub , friendly staff and locals. We did have the fish and chips from next door but on the way home on the friday night .. they were lovely .we have one anti social dog but she was happy to lie under the table and just chill and the bar maid informed anybody that came in about her , which was nice so she didn't get stressed.would highly recommend and would visit again.
Atmosphere fantastic, pub beautiful, garden stunning, staff lovely and the bar always full of laughing locals .. not forgetting the fantastic beer :)
Great atmosphere and great ale!! It was like walking into Doctor Who's tar dis, small on the outside and much bigger when you enter
Friendly owner plus dog! A brilliant example of pub history related by the owner. Lots of room in the extension out back. Enjoyed our visit.
Great ales to choose from here. Beer garden, modern loos, old authentic pantry pub steeped in history and local traditions. Bar staff very informative and enthusiastic to share local knowledge. Warm welcome in lovely quiet surroundings, walkers and dogs welcome so definately returning soon.
Fantastic beer, lovely beer garden and chips can be delivered from the chippy next door for you to enjoy, really what's not to like
Being an ex-pat now living in the U.S I constantly crave real authentic British pubs and ales. So when I come back I frequent as many as possible but none have ever left an impression quite like the Sun Inn in Leintwardine. Its connection to its past may be what sets this pub apart from many others but this is also backed up by a delicious selection of well kept local ales and ciders along with popular lagers for all manner of drinkers. A great mix of friendly locals and happy visitors makes for interesting conversations and encounters. The beer garden is lovely and is a great place to eat delicious fish and chips from next door. The new additions to the thankfully well preserved historical front rooms seems to attract warm, friendly and often musically talented people. A must stop for anyone interested in visiting one of the most original and welcoming pubs in the U.K.
We walked to the top of a hill from Downton and saw Leintwardine. Friendly reception in what looks like a house that is open to the public. Nice garden, porkpies and prices.
Sensitively updated for the 21st century, so good to see an old fashioned pub like this can survive and thrive.
This is one of the last parlour pubs and maintains its warm welcome to all. The history of the Sun Inn and its famous landlady, Flossie, is told on the website and in the photos in the parlour where she used to sit. She can also been seen rolling a beer barrel in a carved misericord in Leintwardine Church. I went there with a group of 50 recently and Gary and his friendly staff put on a great buffet lunch for us and the excellent beer was much enjoyed. The sun shone and some of us were able to sit outside. Fish and chips can be ordered from the Fiddlers Elbow next door and brought to you in the pub while you enjoy your pint. A unique experience in an historic place.
Becoming a fixture on every visit to the area, this. You know it's a proper local when people wander in singly of an evening and know that others will just turn up. Also when there's a 60th birthday party on a Sunday lunchtime and the place is packed with all ages. But still could not be more welcoming to visitors like us.
None of the original charm has been lost it has added appeal with the extension. The garden is perfect to enjoy a pint and you must have fish and chips from next door is the perfect evening in the summer. Have done this twice with family and friends and its always a winner.
This pub has an amazing history and you need to go and see it! But best of all, if you order fish and chips from next door, you can wait in the pub, where it will be brought to you while you have a drink!
Recently extended but keeping the character of this great pub. We went years ago when the lovely Flossie was still 'ruling the roost' and I am happy that the charm of the place has not been lost. Gary is a great host and there is a warm welcome for all.
Having visited The Sun over the past 13 years, the wonderful atmosphere of the parlour and older part of the building has not been spoiled by the basic, but tasteful, modern extension that has been added to the rear of the building.
