On a cold march day it was a case of wrapping up warm and keeping up a steady pace. Join the River Dee at Lower Bridge street and walk along the promenade towards the chain bridge, there are cafes and restaurants to visit along the route and if its a long walk you want then cross the chain bridge turn left and walk along to the meadows. There are great views of Chester all the way along the walk.

My only regret is that my doggies weren't with me.Such a lovely stroll along the river with a lot of opportunities to take a seat and watch the world go by.Long boats look beautiful.

There is quite a variety of choice here - walks, boat trips, pubs, old bridge and weir, racecourse, historical Roman sights, to name the main ones we have enjoyed. A nice day out.

Take a stroll down to the river and the magnificent Queens Park suspension Bridge and the equally amazing Roman Bridge. Lovely just to sit and watch the world go by. Boat trips can also be taken.

This is a must visit in Chester without doubt. Strolling along the promenade path alongside the River Dee is just so beautiful and peaceful. Plenty of seats and benches and lovely places selling tea and coffee and riverside pubs. Talk a walk over the iron pedestrian bridge to enjoy both banks of the river.Quaint ..... this has it all and you have to tear yourself away to go back into the city centre ..... I could stay here all day ...... sitting, watching and walking ...... one of those super perfect places

We went for a walk along the Dee, very lovely, we also went on a boat trip which is well worth it. We went for another walk along the city walls the for a cold beer.

The main riverside is just a few minutes from the City Centre and is a beautiful place just to sit, relax and watch the world go by. I can't wait to return in the summer, when I believe they have regular live music in the bandstand

The River Dee has many stories to tell and I have spent many happy hours during the course of my life exploring this beautiful river that flows from near Llanuwchllyn in the hills of Snowdonia, passing through Llyn Tegid in Bala, then towards Llangollen, heading off to the magnificent Pontcysyllte Aqueduct, built by Thomas Telford, to carry the tremendous Shropshire Union Canal, one hundred and twenty feet overhead.Heading in the direction of Bangor on Dee and to the east of Wrexham, the river becomes a natural border between Wales and England. From there, it heads off towards Holt, then into Farndon in England. From there it flows through Aldford to Chester. There is so much history and so much natural beauty as you travel to different parts of this river from the Welsh hills to the beautiful city of Chester. (Buy a map and information books and research.)I live about five miles from Chester and have spent many happy weekend afternoons walking along the four main bridges - Queen' s Park, The Old Dee Bridge, the Grosvenor Bridge, and towards the fourth bridge that carries over it The Chester to Holyhead railway line.Pop into Chester, have lunch, then explore. Sit at a riverside cafe and watch the locals and tourists walk by. Go on a boat trip. Enjoy an ice cream. The River Dee - Afon Dyfrdwy - covers a seventy mile stretch. Lots to see. Go and explore. It costs little! Don't forget a camera.

There is a lot to do and see along the river. Places to eat, or sit and enjoy the activities on the river.Starting at the weir where you can watch the canoes or the local boating clubs.Boats trips with food and music is available. The Handbridge side of the river where Chester Meadows is a great place to walk and exercise your dog. Not as busy as the city side.

A peaceful thread through the city of Chester, but go off-season for a quiet walk and river cruise, as we have visited in-season and it gets very busy. Lots of places to eat if it rains and things to see if the sun shines.

Lovely area to walk in. Very peaceful and easy walk for all the family. Boat trips are available for another view of chester

Nice place to walk but the path is not "alongside" the river but a bit away from it, so you don`t really feel as though you are walking along the banks of the river which really would feel nice. An easy, flat walk which could have been better if there had been a couple of cafe`s / bars at which to relax and enjoy the view.

I took walk down to the river this afternoon and found it to be freezing, jumping in with clothes on will slow you down, confirmed. The sound of trickling water should have calmed me down and made me feel at ease, however did nothing of the sort only made me need to go to the bathroom, which the river does not have its own free toilets. Rubbish!!
