Loved walking along the wall. It was a great way to see the city and get from one side to the other, then walk back through the town.

Don't go to Chester and not walk along the walls. The views are superb and the best way to see the scale of the City.So much history and although there are some renovations happening it shows they are well maintained.Great place to visit. Lots of spots for great selfies!

I walked all the way around the walls, except for where the renovation of the clock tower is taking place. This is a marvellous experience, informative boards all the way round and there is so much to see, it take you along the side of the racecourse.

A great way to explore this historical city and a great way to exercise too ;) a shame that the clock is under repair, would have been a 5 otherwise

Lovely gentle walk with just a few small flights of steps takes you all the way round the old city walls (with the short break where being renovated - but easy to find the path again). Great way to see the City and get your bearings . Really interesting bits of info on signs just when you need them with old illustrations which highlight the changes with the passing of time - especially interesting about the size of the river Dee when Chester was a major port - large swathes of land which used to be river now the racecourse- fascinating. And...........Free of charge.

If your in Chester you must take a walk around the walls, the sheer scale of the wall in places is just incredible, the walls take you down to the River Dee, past the Roman Gardens and into town, sadly the East gate Clock was being refurbished during our visit and there were some diversions off the walls. A walk on the walls is a must when visiting Chester.

If you have the time, this is absolutely the best way to get the feel of Chester. From the short - maybe 2 and a half mile - walk, you will see buildings, ruins and sites from every period of Chester's past. Particular personal favourites: Morgan's Mount - a recently restored Civil War artillery battery. If you have a head for heights, go all the way up to the roof. the views are superb!Eastgate Clock - the classic view of the streets of Chester, on the site of an original Roman gateway. Access to the Cathedral is easy and scenic, especially if you approach from the Phoenix Tower.Absolutely not to be missed, if you have the time to have an atmospheric wallow in the past!Access is available from lots of places - if you are basically mobile you will have no trouble at all with the walk.

Chester has an almost complete circuit of Roman Walls which circle the city for around 2 miles. Taking a walk will provide great views of the city, racecourse, Eastgate Clock, and river along with opportunities to enter a number of the towers at strategic points including the one from which King Charles watched the defeat of his troops at Rowton Moor. The Walls are just one of the historical gems in Chester.
