The Royal Crescent sounds very grand and it is however the buildings were not all maintained to the same standard and indeed some looked a bit shabby. Not all the houses had their beautiful Georgian windows intact.
This really is architecture at its most finest, lovely to just walk around and admire, and quite fascinating.
a very beautiful architectual display, a true gem in Bath ,well worth visiting.LOvely sandstone crescent ,with the famous view we all have seen in the history books
For buildings, the Circus is much more beautiful but for aspect Royal Crescent wins. How did they get away with replacing some of the georgian windows with Victorian ones?
The Royal Crescent was erected between 1767-75 and the architect was John Wood jnr, yes I know it is more Georgian Architecture but this is impressive, it is absolutely beautiful to look at.
If you visit Bath you will invariably visit this landmark. Beautiful architecture and photo opportunity. Looks lovely around sunset too! If you like crazy golf there is a really good one for you to enjoy at bottom of hill
I'm a huge Jane Austen fan so was incredibly excited to see Royal Crescent as part of the Mayors Guided Walking Tour (also a must!). For anyone who's watched films or TV shows based on Jane Austen novels or anything from this period, you're likely recognise this beautiful housing structure. Seeing it in the flesh (so to speak) and hearing the history behind it blew me away and was a very good photo opportunity! ***SPOILER (in case you don't have a tour guide): It was designed to look like a palace for Nouveau Rich holidaymakers)***
Grand architecture and impressive. Recommend also seeing the Georgian museum on the end of the crescent. Very well done and it gives you a good idea of life in Georgian times. A must see!
Great place to see & interesting history behind it , recommend the museum at No 1 Royal Crescent. It is very accessible & great views of Bath
Lovely Georgian buildings. We are staying in an apartment inhabited by Jane Austen and the brochure stated that elton and Hugh two famous people live up there, so we popped in for a spot of lunch and had a brilliant time. Joking apart - certainly worth the walk up there.
enabled two crazy Jane Austen fans to recreate a favourite scene. infamous piece of architecture and as impressive as you'd think it should be.
We took the free walking tour which is a must if you are in Bath. The circle and many other highlights in Bath are included. Love this city!!
Good to see but once seen there are far more interesting places to visit, unless of course you are really interested in Architecture.
