We went to the Vermeer Museum in Delft and just loved it I n fact, we went back again the next year. It is so well laid out with lovely art work by such an amazing artist. There is a room laid out as if he had just laid down his paintbrush and gone for a walk. I did not care that the paintings were not the originals as we could get up close to them and look at the splendid details. Well worth a visit as is Delft, a gorgeous little town.

Even though there are no original Vermeers here we really enjoyed our visit and leanred loads. We particularly enjoyed the film.

The Vermeer’s house itself is worth a visit but it will cost you unless you park your car in a garage. The Regionale Belaisting Groep – a cash-hungry private company, which “operates” Delft’s parking system runs a scam penalising unsuspecting visitors. Most of the streets are not clearly sign-posted for “special parking zones” (apparently only at the entry to these zones). In effect, when you park your car, happy that you found a free parking spot, you are likely to find a ticket for €80 when you come back (and this applies even oin Sundays!) We generally found the Netherlands hostile to motor tourist more than any other country, with excessive parking charges, few parking option or parking limited to short periods, so you can’t relax but run back to re-charge your parking spot. I am aware this is a small, densely populated country but this can ruin visitors' experience. So, despite our fascination with the Dutch art, we are unlikely to go back there again.

A quick visit would be enough but it is still interesting! It does not have any originals nor anything original from Vermeer, it is more kind of a stage.

Take your time and enjoy this interactive museum designed to bring the world of Vermeer to the viewer. Depictions of his works, an introduction film, interesting displays on light and its effect on his style, and assumptions on what he "could have" meant as he painted his remarkable work. Its a fine place for children over 10 or such and right off the Main Square. Vermeer's is buried in the Oude Kerk nearby (NOTE: No churches in Delft are open on Sunday except for services.)

The other really famous Dutch painter ... fascinating insight into Vermeer's life (when not a lot is known about him) and the Dutch art scene and society in the 17th Century. Audio guide very important - I normally don't use them, but here I'd say it is essential. Seeing his paintings without a single painting present was very exciting and I learned so much ... which is not my usual experience of art gallery's. Be careful, it requires around two hours to fully immerse oneself ... we ran out of time.

It doesn't include any Vermeer's original paintings, but you have the chance to see the copies of all of his paintings. This gives you the opportunity to understand Vermeer's evolution during his career, compare and understand the different patterns and have a more global perspective of his works. It is worth visiting it.

Interesting attempt to explain an artist but not enough content, somewhat repetitive in discussion of symbolism, and no original art. The audio guide was clever - just point it at a marker to get an explanation. The range and chronology of his work was interesting to see. Brief discussions of topics like preparation of paints and making brushes.

Winter in Delft is very different from a summer afternoon in this little city painted by the enigmatic master Vermeer, but it has a charm all its own. If you are weary from the cold and the wind and angry at the train station construction site that messes up the entry to the old town, visit the Vermeer Centre and take a cup of tea with a slice of cake. This is not the house Vermeer lived in (that was torn down), but this was the Guild that Vermeer regularly visited while living in Delft, so quite likely some traces of him were left after hundreds of years! The centre is nicely compact, with some hard-to-find books, and on a winter afternoon, exudes the calm and tranquility of a Vermeer domestic interior. The cafe is run by volunteers so do not expect great coffee or service. And no original Vermeers - sorry!

The Vermeer Centrum is a worthwhile tour. While they do not have any original Vermeers (there are only 34 authenticated paintings in the world), they do an excellent job of showing Vermeer life, attitude, and how he used light in so many different ways. Some people will complain there are no original Vermeers in his house. Not me. It was a wonderful learning experience. I have never studied art and will not pretend to understand all of the nuances. However, this museum does a wonderful job taking you through his life, his influences, and speculates on his thought process (there is a great discussion on A View of Delft). Please don't be dissuaded from seeing this museum because it only has replicas. There is so much that can be learned and the curators do a wonderful job at it.

Vermeer Centrum is a fine building turned into a museum in the center of Delft. It is privately run. You can see all paintings of Vermeer and have an impression of his environments in his time. However, all of the paintings are replicates, painted on mediocre quality materials. His paintings are scattered around the world, though some major ones still in the Netherlands, exhibited at the likes of Rijksmuseum (Amsterdam) or Mauritshuis (the Hague). It is the visitors judgement to decide whether the entrance fee is worth to see replicates of Vermeer's paintings.
