This is a big natural area. If you have time and a full day or two to dedicate to hiking, this place is great. The drive there is scenic and easy - very well marked/indicated. Would have liked to have spent more time there. There is a hermitage that is popular to hike to. Lots of flora and fauna to see - a great nature reserve.

If you find yourself within 50 miles of here you will be amply rewarded if take time to visit. It's a truly stunning place and so accessible for people of any physical ability without disappointing the fittest walker. We saw it last year for the briefest of visits and were so taken with the place we planned our holiday round it this year.

I'm an eleven year old girl and I loved it. As I got there, after having a lovely pick-nick, I enjoyed watching the vultures fly high in the sky. They are an amazing bird, and you can just sit down watch them for hours. After watching them for a while I took a path on the right leading towards an amazing hermitage. But walking a bit further from it, you find something way more stunning, the cave. It is such an impressive cave... I have just one last thing to say, a story I have heard of says that there is one amazing vulture called Antonio that helped a heart-broken girl to recover. I reccomend this park for family holidays.

I visited Rio Lobos valley without knowing anything about it. Despite poor signposting I got there pretty easily although it's a long way off main roads. It feels special, with huge cliffs on either side and the sight of vultures at the entrance to the canyon. The rock formations and dead ancient trees by the hermitage are fascinating but the treat is the magnificent vultures. I saw them feeding young, perched on promontories and floating effortlessly up into the highest clouds. This is a special and wonderful place and highly recommended.

Everyone would find something to love about this place. Short and long walks, accessible if you use a wheelchair or a seasoned hiker. Amazing views of vultures nesting and flying. A beautiful hermitage is a1km walk away from the car park. Beside the hermitage is an incredible cave with cave drawings. A great experience!

Beautiful landscape, we wished that we had had more time to walk in the canyon, it has the possibility to stretch anybody's legs. From vultures to little green frogs and a lone, very well behaved shepherd dog which came to cool off in one of the pools and then continued on its way, it was a lovely experience.

The birds roost along the cliffs of the gorge and set off when the air has warmed. In July this isn't until 09.30 ish and return in the early evening. A good place to view is from the Mirador above the park entrance. When the bird return they often seem to put on a show for those patient enough to wait. I've seen some wonderful views of these majestic birds really close up as the fly past the edge of the cliff. I visit every year and there is also plenty to see nearby, churches and some of the most amazing castles you'll find. Ucero close to the park entrance has a good castle which offers great views. The campsite at Ucero is excellent. We've used it most years for the past 18 years. One thing to be aware of though is due to how high the whole area is it gets jolly cold at night even after a really hot (>35 degree) Summers day.

Firstly, if you visit el Cañon del Rio Lobos to walk, it's a good idea to go and talk to the guys in the information centre at Ucero first, they are (obviously) very well informed and we were glad we'd had the routes, timings, and parking arrangements explained before we headed into the canyon. The basic idea is that there is a long route going the whole way up the river (I think it was 26km but I could be wrong), but you'd need 2 cars or a taxi or something to do it all, but doing it in sections is easier, and as the guy rightly pointed out, being a curvy canyon, the view going one way is completely different from the view going the other. From the Ucero end, there are 2 parking areas available (although 3 marked on the maps), the first at the restautant just off by the bridge at the entrance to the canyon, but adding a further 3km onto your walk (for the record, the bocadillos in the bar there were pretty awful too, but they do have them to take away if you're desperate). Further up the road, up the canyon, you can then park just 1km away from the Ermita, but you have to pay 4 Euros per car to do so. We did this, and it was worth it to be closer, and for the map they gave you at the checkpoint, which detailed all the walks etc. The Ermita is in a lovely setting, and the huge cave mouth next to it adds to it all. We walked about another 5km up and back the canyon, and it was well worth it, beautiful scenery, lots of yellowing trees in autumn, and lots of vultures. For the record, there were lots of kids doing the walk too, it is almost 100% flat and generally easy walking (some stepping stones across the river, but in autumn there was no river to speak of, so that was easy!). We considered doing another part of the canyon the following day, but decided that one bit was enough and would be a bit repetitive. Instead we did the marked walk in Ucero starting down by the bridge by the river, going through the roman canal tunnel (interesting) and up to the castle (very impressive templar castle) and potentially along another river and via the visitors centre (we unfortunately didn't have time to do it all).

Fantastic views and lots of vultures riding the thermals from view point next to the road.

I visited Canon del Rio Lobos in June of 2012. It is a natural canyon area in Soria, northeast of Madrid about 2.5 hours by car.The landscape is that of deep cut canyons and ravines. The area is karsted so there are many very interesting topographical features to see.We hiked up to the canyon head (about 1km) from the parking lot. It is an easy walk along a road. At the head of the canyon there is an old Templar Church that is open to the public. It is not used as a church anymore, but it still has some artifacts inside.There is also a cave about 100m deep that was used by bronze age people.There are some natural rock arches in the area and we hiked up to one. As we were sitting there enjoying the view we watched many vultures fly by at eye level.I recommend this area without hesitation if you want a nice day trip out of Madrid to enjoy a bit of nature.

Beautifull walk around the landscape where you can see lot of birds and know the history of the area

Merece la pena hacer el recorrido completo, aun que se recomienda ir a primera hora de la mañana por que son varias horas de caminata.

Un paseo tranquilo y agradable y como el fin de semana salió muy bueno fue un grato reencuentro con el sol.

Precioso paseo contemplando halcones; impresionantes vistas; curiosa la cueva aunque debería estar mejor señalizada; imprecindible visita.
