a very quiet local spot with a great deal of history. you might need a guide or really good guide book to tell you more about it.

Yerma

It has 139 gushing spouts, each with different carved faces, spilling into 3 pools with Neptune in the centre. Quite delightful! The water is clear and potable. Definitely worth visiting.

We only saw it at night, but nicely lit. Looked like they were landscaping the area around it when we were there.

Walk up the Calle Rio and check out the street side mansions on the way my wife loved the beautiful doors and balconies.

This is a wonderful place to walk to after dinner and cool off. The fountains flow into other fountains, and the fountain lights just glow against the statues and sculptures. It's easy to sit along the fountain (lots of benches) and enjoy the atmosphere.

With the free maps at torist info centre in the main square, its possible to amble around all the sights in one day but the churches have limited opening hours. The fountains are a delight and are just a 10 minute amble from the square. Worth a visit

The King's Fountain is located at the Calle del Rio and is the emblematic National Monument of Priego. It was began in the 16th century, rebuilt several times after the 16th century and finally completed in 1803 with a Baroque design by Remigio del Marmol. There are three ponds on different levels, containing 139 water spouts that emerge from the faces of stone gargoyles. The first level has the figure of a lion battling a serpent, created by Alvarez Cubero, a neo-classical sculptor. The second level has the figures of Neptune with his wife Amphtitrite, riding on a chariot pulled by horses. The third basin contains the mouth of Clero where the water disappears. Clero is a humorous reference to the clergy who funded the monument.

Very calm and peaceful - Spectacular 16th century fountain. Even in March withouth the leaves on the tress, it is a wonderful place to just sit and relax. Just beyond the square you can walk to the Ermita del Cavario from where there are great views of the town.

Merece ir a contemplarla.
