I had the best time in here. The buildings are so wonderful to visit here. The exterior is nice but the interior is stunning.
As we strolled along the pedestrian path, we passed this church several times. As we walked past one evening, we noticed it was open. Although unassuming from the outside, it was a WOW inside! Very ornate and beautiful church.
The Basilica is an excellent example of Baroque architecture but demands a high price for entry. We glanced and passed.
With the Alhambra taking top billing it is easy to miss this wonderful cathedral. It is ornate, warm, inviting and representative of the riches that represented Spain at this time. It is well worth a visit and a casual stroll by the many nearby cafes after.
Ornate and extensive decor inside this building still actively used for services. Grotto statue of the Virgin Mary next door in the garden too. Outside is very pleasant tree lined pedestrian area leading to a fountain square with good Italian restaurant on right up side street and artisan Ice cream shop on the corner of the square.
It has to be seen to be believed. The interior is magnificent. The Basilica is so beautiful and the atmosphere is surprisingly peaceful, considering the location.
The Basilica de Nuestra Señora de las Angustias is one of the most beautiful Baroque churches in Granada, and perhaps in Spain. Almost every wall surface is covered with a painting or a Baroque design. We were able to see the camarin, the dressing room of the Virgin Mary, and this was wonderful. The parish priest who allowed us to see it was a very nice and educated man. This church is one of the must see churches in the city.
The cathedral is an unusual looking building from the outside, but please go in and explore this amazing church. There are so many beautiful altars and pieces of art- you won't be disappointed. The attached museum is filled with astounding treasures.
We walked in by accident, and we were astounded by the interior. I wasn't expecting much, given that the outside is rather non-descript and we knew nothing about the church. But I literally gasped with shock at the detailed beauty of the interior. With so much decoration to behold, we lingered longer than expected and really enjoyed our visit. Read other reviews to get a sense of history behind this must-see basilica.
I have the fortune to stay at a hotel near by this church. This is a great Church with some 300 years of history. The inside reveals wonderful Baroque decorations. There is a Chapel of the Virgin Mary decorated by beautiful, ornamented altarpiece. There are also many invaluable paintings and sculptures.Other than Alhambra, Catedral,….in Granada, this is a place worth to visit.
An amazing baroque church, it is gorgeous, the acoustics are great, every surface is decorated; even the flowers fit into the decorations. The services are in Spanish, but was easy to follow with the remnants of college Spanish. Worshiping her on Easter Sunday was a never-to-be-forgotten, lovely experience.
The Basilica de Nuestra Señora de las Angustias is one of the most beautiful Baroque churches in Andalusia. Its architect was Juan Luis Ortega and the church was built between 1663 and 1671. The façade has two towers with spires. The Baroque altarpiece is made of jasper and was made in 1760 in the Chrrigueresque style, with plenty of adornment. Above the altar is a beautiful dome. The church has many sculptures by famous artists that include Risueño, Jose de Mora, and Pablo de Rojas. The patron saint of the City of Granada is Nuestra Señora de las Angustias andin the last Sunday in September there is a procession dedicated to the Virgin Mary. A few days before they cover the façade of the church with flowers, as tradition dictates. This church is a favorite for weddings of the wealthy middle classes.
