This old theater is very old and large. On a great location in the old city, near the old bridge. We didnot visited in inside, but it looks very nice.

We saw the theatre whilst doing our walk around the old town area. Unfortunately we could not visit inside as it was not open. The pictures we could see of the inside indicated that the inside is as beautiful as the outside. If there was an opportunity to go inside we would have loved to see the interior. We found Bilbao an easy city for walking, fairly flat and a visit to the old town area is not to difficult, at a casual pace.

For just 5 euros you can take a guided tour of this beautiful theatre. The architecture is also magnificent. Also most performances start at about 20.00 hours should you wish to see a show. It is situated in the old part of Bilbao and close to the Plaza Nueva.

This is worth a visit. Beautiful old theatre with a rich history. Location is great easy to get to and walk all the way around

It is not the only one we have in Bilbao, luckily, but this is really worth visiting, just for knowing it, but better for attending a play or a concert, if posible. It is besides very close to the Bilbao Old Part (Casco Viejo), and it is an art and theatre symbol in Bilbao. Should not be missed!!

Had a wonderful night tonight looking for " el Alma de la Melodía" on this Noche de Broadway. This show is over but I recommend to go and visit an event when you are in Bilbao.

Beautiful, it was build following the vienna arquitechtonical style. Great acustic. The place where it was built was a beach 300 hundreds years ago.

The Arriaga Theater is located at Plaza Arriaga, 1. This theater was inspired by the Paris Opera House and finished in 1890, the architects being Joaquin Rucoba and Octavio de Toledo. It is named after Juan Crisostomo de Arriaga, a local composer, and his bust is found at the imperial staircase. The facade is a mixture of many styles. The theater had electric lighting, which at that time was the latest technological advance. A fire on Dec. 22, 1914, destroyed the building. Architect Federico de Ugalde was hired to rebuild the theater, making it larger and safer. The new inauguration of the theater took place on June 5, 1919, with the performance of Don Carlo by Giuseppe Verdi. In 1978 the City Hall took ownership of the theater from private sources. The building was closed due to its poor condition. In 1980 the building was renovated and it reopened on Dec. 5, 1986. The theater is used for opera, ballet, concerts, and theater.

a central focal point as you cross to the old town, excellent Tourist Office with very helpful staff within.

If you have a student ID in most shows you can get half price tickets! (Last 30 mn, if there are any tickets left.) But this is a huge hall, so there should be. Don't go for the cheaper, although it is also ok, but first 3 levels are better. (with %50 discount you can get some for about 15 euro..)Once you buy the tickets, it is not allowed -and they check constantly- to change levels or seats. so if you but cheaper ones, you will have to sit there even if the hall is empty. (Believe me we did everything to sneak in other levels. no way.)
