We had an amazing time out at Alamo Lake. We went through the State Park and we stayed at the Wayside Oasis, 5 miles outside the State Park. Pleanty of trail everywhere. They have a restaurant and a bar out there in the middle of nowhere. We couldn't have had a better time.

We spent 2 days/night at Alamo Lake. We don't fish. We just went to get away for a few nights. The park was beautiful. The sites are plenty big, and there were plenty of choices when we were there. They have full-hookups available, level sites, gorgeous views of the lake and mountains. They have restrooms and a place to clean your fish. We saw wild burros on the hills and the sunsets were spectacular. We would go there again. We travel in a motorhome with tow vehicle.

The Alamo Lake State Park & camping area is remote but still offers full RV hookups, electric & water hookups and dry camping. We love the area because of the 4-wheeling, exploring mines and picking up a unique rock every now and then. The Lake was beautiful from our B section site and we would go back to that section again and next time bring the kayaks also. Bathrooms were clean and Park Staff very friendly. Don't forget to keep your eyes open for burros. Area gets hot in summer with very little shade; but it was nice in February.

Most people come here for the fishing, but we come to shake off the big city stress and enjoy great weather and one of the best dark sky spots for stargazing in the Sonoran Desert. Temperatures are about the same as Phoenix, so the best camping months are October through April. Campground is clean and well-maintained: "A" Section has free hot showers; "B" Section across the road has water and electric hookups in the "lake view" campsites; "C" Section is dry camping. Lots of birds, wild burros, and coyotes. Small store with ice and minimal provisions.

If you like heat and desert with very few to no trees of any kind, you might like this lake. While people do catch fish, I have never caught any, probably because I don't like to use the bait that the fish bite there. I'm spoiled on lure fishing in rivers.

Although the fishing was not the best for our crew, we did enjoy the campground and the kids had a blast tubing. The campgrounds were nice and well kept. Be sure if you are low on gas to go past turn off to lake to Paulden about 4 miles to fill up or get any last minute things.
