The museum has so much in it to learn. Two blocks from the metra train. Fridays are free days, if you should go on another day admission is adults 5, children 3. Classes are offered there, and you rent out the museum of any occasion. They have had weddings there. Really neat.
This building is located in a beautiful park area. The exhibits here tend to be really well curated and there are evening classes for every age... including life-drawing classes taught by an excellent instructor.
Surprisingly nice little suburban art museum and bonus architecture find, was nice we happened to go on a Friday which are free! NOT a big place, temp exhibit had 3 nice rooms.
My boyfriend and I were in the area this past weekend and decided to visit this museum. I'm SO glad that we did.It is a VERY small museum, but the structure itself and the surrounding area are FANTASTIC! The woman who was working the front desk couldn't have been any nicer! She was super friendly, willing to chat and informed us of the museum itself, the special exhibit that was currently being shown, as well as the adjacent (read: attached!) Mies van der Rohe McCormick House. The house was relocated from it's former location (not too far away) in 1994 and the structure is now attached to the museum. Currently, part of the house is being used as administrative offices, but they are working to change that and eventually re-do that so that people can tour that section as well. There is a video that you can watch with more details. There are only 3 residences in the United States designed by Mies. Admission is only $5.00 for adults ($3.00 for seniors). They also have a gift shop with VERY reasonably priced items (which isn't usually the case, from what I've seen in my travels). You can even rent the space, which is mostly floor to ceiling windows, for weddings, parties, etc. In fact, the night before there WAS a wedding there. You won't be here very long, but it is definitely worth a stop. There are other museums in the area, so you can make a day of museum sight seeing! It is all on one level, they have bathroom facilities, but no food or beverages.
