While not as large as some zoos, the Brevard Zoo does a great job with its attractions. There is a good variety of animal species, particularly primates, and you can see everything in one day. It's well-suited, especially, for younger children, who will like the train ride - the only way to see the camels, btw. We have an annual zoo family membership, and were a bit put off when they insisted on seeing ID for BOTH my wife and I, not something we encountered at the Lowry Zoo in Tampa, where we are also members. However, just a minor inconvenience, and we would definitely recommend the Brevard Zoo.
We have never been supporters of the "zoo" experience, considering the poor animals in enclosures, missing their natural habitat and living free. But this zoo is outstanding! The animals are so well cared for, allowed to roam free in beautiful surroundings, lots of knowledgeable volunteers to advise the public about each animal. Lovely plank walkways provide direction to many different continents highlighting the animals for that region. We ended up staying hours longer than planned to watch the antics of so many different critters. Definitely a place to visit and support their efforts!!
Love this place, great little pool for the kids, very decent food, reasonably priced, lots to do great value, we have annual passes. If your visiting central Florida and need a relaxing day away from the parks then this place is a must, it is less than an hour from Orlando/Kissimmee either go east on the 528 to I95 or take SR192 to I95. Well worth the trip ..
Absolutely wonderful zoo! Very clean and organized. Exhibits were well maintained, animals appeared healthy and in good spirits, lots of hands on areas for kids. Kayak tour was great. Will have to go back again and try the zipline trekking. Definitely worth a return trip!
We were in Melbourne for a conference about sea turtles, had the opportunity to go to the turtle hospital located in at the zoo. The vet that was on duty spent a good deal of time with us explaining their work at the zoo with sea turtles.
Easily accessible off of I-95, this is a great smallish zoo - we spent 5 hours total, including a lunch break, and saw it all at a leisurely pace. You'd spend more time if you stopped to catch any wildlife shows, or took your kids to the wading pool. Well laid out, we just kept heading to the right and never got lost. There are several themed areas of the zoo, including Florida wildlife, African, Australia, etc. A nice assortment of animals representing each wildlife zone were represented, We were especially impressed with the Florida zone - especially the education about the banded water snake, often mistaken for water moccasins locally. Although they did not have a BWS on display, it was impressive that they took the time to state that often wild ones do appear in the park, and that they are not dangerous! We had one on our own property, and the neighbors kept freaking out about it, while we left it alone and enjoyed its company. So this education is sooooo needed! The African area is very impressive, with very large open areas available for the rhinoceros, zebra, and especially giraffes to roam. The high platform is super fantastic for viewing from above - and face-to-face when the giraffes come over looking for treats! Literally face-to-face!! For food there is a pizza place, and an outdoor restaurant that had a fair assortment of items, many healthy choices which is always a plus. The prices were fairly reasonable as well. We are members of the Central Florida Zoo, and got half off our admission by showing our membership card. Note that they asked for ID for both me and my husband (both named on the card), so maybe they only offer the discount to the actual card holders - when in doubt, call in advance and see what your local zoo membership will net you. There is a gift shop at the front of the park, and a zip line service (which we didn't use). We'd definitely return for another visit.
We didn't have a lot of time the day we came here - arrived about 2 1/2 hours before closing, but we really enjoyed the experience. Only regret that we didn't have time to visit the petting zoo. We had no youngsters with us, but missing our pets at home we could have done with the "furapy" the hands-on experience would have afforded. Late afternoon is not the best time of day to visit, but that was all we had. The giraffes were all hiding, and many of the animals were taking siesta. One of our favorite moments was when the male Jaguar, Mulac, who was taking his rest in the far corner of his pen, actually got up and came over to just the other side of the glass where we were standing and flopped down right in front of us. I think he was picking up on our 'cat-lover' vibes! Also loved the open aviary and the Lorikeet feeding experience.
Visitor friendly, easy to navigate and was impressed with the number of zoo employees who were always around to offer information and help.
This is not a very big zoo but there was plenty to see and the staff was very friendly. The grounds were well maintained and the animals appeared relaxed and well cared for. It was a good stress reliever from the day to day hustle and bustle. It is a nice outing for both children and adults.
Loved feeding the giraffes and birds. Get up close and personal with these beautiful creatures! All different ways to explore, by walking, canopy zip line, or canoeing. Left with lot's of great memories!
We were at the brevard zoo years ago with our grandsons & loved it then. The many improvements enhanced our most recent visit. We loved the train ride. Staff was very helpful on a day they were busy with many children from local schools who were on field trips.
Small area but interesting and surprisingly large collection of zoo animals. We spent more time than we expected - especially enjoyed the walk in the bird cage. Sadly, we missed the giraffes.
Enjoyed this with small grandchildren. Impressed with the displays. Certainly no expert but seems toe like there are a lot of very good exhibits. Also impressed with amount of staff and volunteers. Readily available, knowledge and helpful.
This is a nice little zoo for the town. Everyone loves to go to the zoo.It is not like the national zoo but it is a fun place to see Giraffes, rino, big snakes, parrots
Had a lot of fun. Nice zoo. The zoo is a good place to take your family. It takes about 1/2 a day to go through the zoo. There is food to buy for lunch at a decent price.
