The Kennedy Space Center is quite large so plan on spending the day there. They have a restaurant on property. There are all kinds of displays from rockets to engines. An especially nice section is dedicated to the men and women who died while serving as astronauts. There is much to see on your own. But if you really want to see the whole place, you can take an instructor-led tour. They will take you all over the Center and show you the launch pads, the VAB building, a mock up of the shuttle that you can walk through and the Saturn Rockets just to name a few. I really enjoyed the tour and thought it was worth the extra money.
It is expensive, $50 per person plus $10 for parking, but it is well worth the money. You can easily spend an entire day here. So many neat exhibits. Tour bus drivers are very knowledgeable. The Space Shuttle Atlantis exhibit is incredible.
I brought my 2.5 year old. He was amazed at all the rockets!! I don't recommend doing the bus tour with kids. We paid to do the Up Close and Personal Explore Tour, but in my opinion it wasn't worth it. If you have kids SKIP it. I would actually skip the entire bus tour, as it was just driving around looking at buildings too far away. The only good thing is it brings you to the Saturn V center, which was great but we didn't have a chance to do everything there because we had booked the 12pm Explore Tour and when we got there it was cancelled so we had to wait for the 1pm Tour which totally screwed up the schedule we had planned. The Atlantis center was phenomenal!! Don't miss it!! There was so much to do especially for the kids. Unfortunately most things required the children to be 44" so my son wasn't able to do them. The IMAX theater was great. I wish KSC would put the times of shows and tours online that way you can plan a little better. There are so many things to see. Unfortunately since KSC cancelled our first tour it screwed everything up and we didn't get a chance to see everything we wanted too.
The park is not as grand as you might expect, but is still impressive. You feel like a kid at a carnival, and are looking for what to do. The Atlantis shuttle is there, and that actually is really neat. There is a simulator leading up to it, which is kind of fun, but could have been done a lot better. The simulation could have shown what it feels like to take off, but instead is a mish-mash of tons of different images and videos, which does not really allow you to enjoy it. I expected high food prices, but not for it to taste so bad. The price is $50. Ouch. If you have never been there, you should do it once.
The park was great but the main attraction the shuttle launch experience you must be 44in tall and the attendant was very rude and insulting the food is very overpriced 10.50 for grill cheese sandwich is this the only source of income for Nasa?
This was our second visit here, there is a new exhibit about the space shuttle Atlantis which was very good & kids would love it. The tour out to the Saturn building was very interesting & took in more of the area than before. Staff were very pleasant & friendly. We ate in the Orbit cafe. Usual fast food but cheaper & nicer than Disney. Shops selling overpriced souvenirs just because they say Kennedy Space Centre on them. You get your photo taken a couple of times, they are 10 dollars each to buy. Best to go & get your photo taken with an astronaut using your own camera for free.
We had a fun day. We had lunch with an astronaut which is buffet style. The astronaut talks for about 30min then accepts questions. The buffet was good. We also took the bus tour which is about 2 hrs long. It was very neat to see the "behind the scenes stuff". It makes several stops to get off and take pictures and look. That is all we had time for. We would have liked to get there earlier to see the other exhibits. Overall a great experience. We live in Florida and had never been.
The bus ride was our favorite part of the day. Great stop at the Saturn rocket location. The Imax movie of journey to space was very good. Too many movies to want to see them all. Overall a lot of amazing history. Of course the food for lunch is mediocre and expensive and the $10 to park is a little hard to swallow.
