The Cleveland Metroparks Zoo is a leader in veterinary medicine and wildlife conservation. They have made several renovations in order to provide improved conditions for their animals in captivity. There is a wide variety of animals and attractions to enjoy. Don't forget to stop at the Rainforest on your visit!
Always a favorite with the grandkids. Myself, I am having a little trouble with the animals in captivity. Cleveland Zoo is an active breeder of wild animals. If they were just 'saving' animals that couldn't make it in the wild, needed a place to recuperate, were rescued from a less animal-friendly habitat I would feel better about it. No matter how habit-like they make the Cleveland Zoo (or any Zoo) it is still caged animals. The internet has ushered in a viable way to see animals in their natural habitat. To hear them. To appreciate them. Ten years ago, five years ago I would have given the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo a five star rating. Now I can't.
The zoo was wonderful, the animals are close enough to actually see but large enclosures for them to have lots of space to do whatever they want in. The staff were very friendly and informative. We went in the winter so not everything was open but they had a lot of indoor buildings to warm up in. They even have a lodge building with a fireplace they turned on when we went in. The other great thing about going in the winter is there was not a lot of people there and you can get a buy 1 get 1 free coupon online.
We go at least a couple of times a year. I find it a great mix of animal exhibits and people comforts. It is spread out and is on several levels but there are trams that will take you to the primate house on the upper level as well as all the different areas on the lower level. My grandson loves the Austrailian exhibit but then it has a train (extra cost) and a tree house. Food and concessions are avaiable (McDonald's and Pizza Hut) but plenty of space in the picnic areas. County residents get in free on Monday mornings. We recently visited a world renown zoo in California...and I thought this one a much better value. I also thought the Cleveland zoos animal exhibits were better..much more natural settings. Weekends can be crowded. Weekdays are a perfect time to visit. We also like visiting on cooler fall and early spring days--sweatshirt weather is perfect for visiting the zoo.
We have an annual pass, so we visit fairly regularly. During the summer, we like to come early in the morning before big crowds. During the winter, we spend most of our time in the Rainforest. We enjoy walking the zoo, but usually take the free tram up to the primate building. It's fascinating to watch the elephants in the Crossing. The carousel is a nice addition to the zoo. It's always fun to watch the new babies grow. Currently, there are monkeys, an orangutan, and 2 giraffes that we especially enjoy visiting.
We love the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo! We have a pass and go as often as we can, year round. The pass is a great value. The zoo is an excellent place for kids, teens, and adults. The animals are typically more active in the mornings and in late fall/early spring. The indoor Rainforest area is an excellent wintertime tropical escape. There is a nice food area in the rainforest where you can purchase a variety of yummy and healthy food choices like yogurt, salads, pizza, pasta, chicken, French fries, sandwiches, ice cream, etc. or you can pack your own lunch.
Just a wonderful zoo. A wide fariety of animals. If you live in the area best thing to do is buy a family season pass. If you go two times it pays for it.
I renewed my membership for zoo this year. I take my daughter and her friends 8 times a year. I love creating projects or games for them to learn new things. The zoo does so much to preserve and teach. It's real and interactive. Winter nice days or even cold ones you have rain forest. If anything you hate animals its a great walk with exercise.
Besides being a great place just to walk on a snowy day, sunny day or whatever, the animals make it even more special.
from ptiisburgh and it dont compare this zoo is huge tops. has a tram foe those who cnt walk the distance
Cleveland's Metroparks Zoo offers a good opportunity for excersize, fresh air, and for those so inclined the chance to learn about our natural world. There is a wide diversity of animals to view. They are for the most part housed in enclosures that permit them to be observed while providing a decent environment for them. There is plenty of information about the animals available for guests. Do bring comfortable shoes. The variety of food available is rather basic and could be considerably improved. All in all the Zoo makes for a good outing.
The Cleveland zoo is one of the best zoos around! It is fun for all ages and is a fabulous value for the money. I would definitely pack lunches in a cooler and go that route as the few choices are not very plentiful.
We visit as a family in the zoo during summer but skipped the Rainforest back then. Today it is frigid Cleveland weather at -4 degrees F outside, but the Rainforest was a perfect repose from the coldness. It is a compact two level rainforest model showcasing animals, insects and trees you can easily navigate, without having to wear your winter coats or hats or mittens inside. Just leave them in the hangers near the entrance lobby and experience the tropics. It's two levels, you can access by stairs or elevator. We visit on a Sunday, paid one fee for both Zoo and Rainforest, although we didn't explore the Zoo on this visit because of the -4F weather that day.
An old city zoo which still has magic. Beautiful setting. Well maintained. The limited size is a definite plus unlike the massive sprawl of Toronto zoo.My kids always love a visit. Me too
Love this place. Plan to spend the day. The Rainforest is a great place for a cold day, takes you out of the cold into the tropical. Have enjoyed the zoo for years. Make sure you put this on your list of places to visit.
