What a great little place! Fantastic art! Yes they are art pieces. Wide variety of animals! Well worth the visit!

We visited the museum with our two daughters, ages 8 & 4. We knew we would have time in the afternoon before our waterpark check-in so we planned our visit accordingly. There are many beautiful pieces of art here. The sheer beauty of the animals captivated the kids and the history was very interesting for my husband and me. Your admission includes a ride on the merry go round. Word of caution: it's fast! The kids loved it but my husband got a little green. The size of the museum is very manageable with small kids and the working merry go round is the icing on the cake. We would definitely stop again. This place is a gem.

I have a carousel horse that I bought 20 years ago. I desided to restore my horse. My wife and I had to go to Dayton on business . We went to Sandusky to visit the museum and get some information about my horse. I met the museum Director and a volunteer by the name of Ed.he gave me tips for the restoration ,the brand of paint he uses and how to repair weak knees on my horseI ,brought pictures of my horse and the the director and staff identified my horse and who was the builder. The staff was great. My wife and I spent close to four hours taking pictures and riding the carousel. Since then I have visited four carousels here in California that were built around 1911 and they are beautiful.I recommend a visit to the Sandusky museum. You'll love it.

This is a nice part of history restored in these carousels in the museum. A must see if in the Sandusky area.

People are amused when we tell them we drove over five hours to visit this museum. We did lots of other things during our visit to Ohio, but the museum was the main attraction for us. There is a good chance we'll be back again. Our tour guides were a husband-wife volunteer team. They were wonderful. They amazed us again and again with volumes of information about merry-go-round people and the business of merry-go-rounds. Most of all we were fascinated with the art and craft of merry-go-round animals. This museum does a great job of telling the story of what the merry-go-round meant to American society for so many years.

I loved my recent visit to the Merry-Go-Round Museum in Sandusky, Ohio! Not only were the volunteers friendly, but they were also a wealth of knowledge. Personally I loved hearing the history and seeing the details up close and personal as we went around on our tour. A favorite spot of mine was actually talking to the artist working on this year's Raffle Horse! Finally, we rode the carousel set in the middle of the building, complete with lights and all! I definitely recommend this to anyone travelling nearby, and it's a great spot for singles, families, elderly tour groups, you name it! Culture, history, and a merry-go-round ride in one spot!

One of the stops on our Circle Lake Erie trip was in Sandusky. Our destination was not the big amusement park but rather the Merry-Go-round museum. We spent about an hour and a half there and had a great time. First, a lady gave us some history and a few suggestions on how best to enjoy to museum. She also shared with us about the three categories of carousel animals - the Coney Island style, the Philadelphia style and the Country Fair style and their differences.Secondly a gentleman told us all about the process in making a carousel horse - complete with examples of carousel horses in different stages of completion. The museum annually makes a carousel horse to raffle off as a fund raiser. This gentleman is one of the staff that makes the horse. The one they are making now is nearly complete - in the final paint stage. Joan bought a few raffle tickets as you need not be present for the drawing which takes place on New Year’s Eve.Lastly, we were treated to a ride on their indoor merry-go-round, complete with appropriate music. I’m quite certain that my climbing on and especially my dismount were far less graceful than those of my childhood. The admission cost is nominal: adults $6, senior citizens $5 and children $4.

The family and I had the privilege to visit this wonderful museum on our recent trip. We were given a personal tour by one of the museum's awesome volunteers. She told us about the history of the merry go rounds. She explained how they're built and painted by designers. She explained how the old merry go rounds are refurbished and handcrafted. The best part was we got to ride their own merry go round at the museum itself. Didn't know they spin that fast. Well worth the visit. The kids will love it.

Highlight of our visit to Sandusky was a trip to the Merry-Go-Round Museum where expert woodsmiths and painters painstakingly and lovingly restore some of these past relics to better than new condition. Did you know there are three distinctly different kinds of merry-go-round horses? With a working carousel in the center of the museum, anyone who appreciates the memories of these fun rides is certain to love a slow wander around the dozens of pieces collected here.

Never thought a Merry-go-Round museum would be worth looking at but I was completely wrong. They have a huge history about them. More than you would ever think existed.

The Museum had some interesting and beautiful carved carousel animals. My main complaint is that the museum did not actually include much history about Merry-Go-Rounds. When did Merry-Go-Rounds start ? It told you the names of the artists that carved the animals but nothing else about the industry. It was a small museum and a little pricey for what was exhibited. I would have liked a little more history with the beautiful art work.

We went on Rainy day on a whim, we stayed for 2 hours and really learned a lot, spoke with passionate staff, and cannot wait to go back! A great history, engaging tourguide, and collection and a professional carver to answer questions.

90 minutes of a unique experience for the kids and us. Around 100 piece form over a century ago, a working merry-go-round with the Wurlitzer playing the tunes.. a great treat... the wood carving station adjacent to the exhibit is staffed throughout the week, and the gent we talked with was kind to the kids, very knowledgeable, friendly, and interesting. Definitely a must stop for all ages!
