the museum of the red river

What an amazing museum! Who knew Oklahoma had a dinosaur all of its own? The Acrocanthosaurus was apparently around 40 million years before the Tyrannosaurus Rex! What an exciting thing to see. The Native American artifacts and art were also a pleasure to look at! Our 4 year old loved drumming on the huge drum they have set up for people to play with. Highly recommended "diamond in the rough"!

After many small town museums, the Museum of the Red River in Idabel was quite a surprise. Well worth the time. The museum houses the official state dinosaur of Oklahoma, whose fossils were found 10 miles from the museum. Very nice collections of pottery. Also has traveling exhibits with current exhibit containing intricate baskets woven by indigenous people of Panama.
