Had a great feature on the Louvre gardens, also had lots of art to see, would recommend making a whole day out of it!!
What a spectacular day! We spent 4 hours in the museum and it was unbelievable. Just couldn't leave until we'd seen everything though the reason for going was to see the Italian Style: Fashion since 1945 exhibition. This gallery is in my opinion even better than the Seattle Art Museum. And all the exhibitions at this time seemed to relate somehow. An excellent overview of art history and the flow is great. Another exhibit there that is a must see is the Richard Mosse: The Enclave. A brilliant film presentation with such dramatic impact. Impossible to view this without being touched and changed. Don't miss this gallery when you visit Portland. We hadn't planned this stop in Portland when we set out on our road trip but I was interested in seeing the Italian Style and am I ever glad we made the stop.
Thoroughly enjoyed visiting the museum, their current exhibit, Italian Style was well done. The museum was also a bargain ($12 over 55). The staff was very friendly and helpful. There are also really nice pieces in their Native American art exhibit. Well worth a visit.
The Portland Art Museum always has interesting temporary exhibits. The permanent collection is also very good, although some of the pieces by the most famous artists are their "second tier" works, in many Portlanders' opinions. But still GREAT art!
This museum has a long history of obtaining amazing exhibitions as well as a fabulous permanent repertoire. For example, the current "Italian Style" exhibition is stunning in its beauty and challenges the senses for the history of where today's state of the art fashion has its roots. This museum is intimate, evocative and whether you have a few hours or a full day, your time here will be well spent.
A nice smaller museum, it is one of my favorite places in Portland. I especially love the outdoor art. I always walk away smiling.
I have been to art museums all over the world. I've learned that some of the most famous ones are just too big and leave me, an art nut, exhausted and frustrated. That wasn't the case in Portland. I was at the museum from the time that they opened at 10:00 and stayed until 5:00 with an hour off for lunch (and free WIFI) in their nice little cafe. I saw practically everything in a leisurely way. It's in a nice location and easy to get to by public transportation. If you are in Portland, make time for this museum.
both permanent and temporary. this museum is well located in downtown portland and friday night after 5PM, it only cost $5! what a great deal. it's worth the regular price however - very much enjoyed the native american exhibit as well as the asian collection and the visiting italian design show. it's a manageable size as well, so you don't get overwhelmed.save time for the gift shop - it's big and full of wonderful treasures!
Fantastic art museum with a free outside court. The museum itself is free on the fourth Friday of every month. Traveling exhibits keep it interesting for frequent visitors. Some special exhibits are an additional cost but worth it.
Went to see the exhibits and loved the lay out of the museum. There is also a movie theater that is shows films from the Portland Film festival.
