Love the layout and natural paths through the zoo. They are building a huge exhibit for their elephants. Watched the lion pride for a long time because the cubs were active. The gift shop was nice, and clean. I took the rail to the entrance, so convenient!
Both animal and kid friendly, with plenty of well spaced and sited exhibits for multiple environments without the jammed together feel of other urban zoos. Large enough, but still easy enough to walk around with kids.
This is a good zoo but many cities have zoo's that are just as nice.Nice train ride goes from the zoo to the Rose Garden (great) and The Japanese Garden (outstanding)/ In the summer top flight concerts but go early cause parking is tough. Kids always love zoos and they will like this one. Usually some newborn animals on hand that are extra cute. The Children's Museum is next door and another museum too (can't remember name but it is about forestry. There is a rapid stop from downtown right to the zoo.
The Zoo is very steep and not Handicap friendly unless you have a riding scooter.Cost is $25 to rent one!! There is a train which only runs in season. It is very small overall and can't see the animals clearly. They are building a new Elephant exhibit so it is messy in there. Very expensive for Food and Gifts..Bring Money
We went to the zoo and walked around for 3 hours.we were hoping to ride the train at the zoo but it was not running during the week.
We had so much fun here...My son absolutely enjoyed himself and so did we :) The weather was amazing so the animals were out in March! We saw quite a bit so we were happy...elephant ears were a big hit.The food was so so at the AfriCafe. I was so excited by the way when i saw that thinking they will have some African cuisine, imagine my disappointment when they didnt even have coconut water.
The Oregon Zoo is one of the most remarkable zoos we have visited in the world! We love the elephant herd here. The Antarctic portion is very intriguing. So much to see and do, one full day was not enough! We will definitely be coming back!
We spent a great couple of hours at the zoo. We thought it was good value - only $10 each with the extra discount for taking public transport. We really enjoyed the newer sections of the zoo, which had nice natural looking enclosures and cute sculptures here and there. A lot of the animals were in hibernation mode, but there were windows into their dens so we could still see them. We spent ages watching the lion family, entertained by the antics of the cubs.I was disappointed in some of the enclosures, particularly for the monkeys, which were just cages. I was pleased to see that the elephants, polar bears and monkeys are all getting new enclosures in the next few years.
The perfect place to spend a day with 3 generations, strollers and backpacks! Wish we could've gotten closer to the elephants, but they are working on their exhibit, so their future home will be perfect for them. The bears, the lions (!), the monkeys - all were enjoyable for the family. Sad about the penguins exhibit- very unnatural and depressing, hope they work on that next. Otherwise, a wonderful place and facilities. We stayed til closing. The day wasn't long enough!!
When in need of relaxing or sharing the Portland Zoo provides that environment. There is always some type of activity going on to add value to the visit. It is kid friendly and budget friendly to adults.
I was here on a weekend while in Portland area for other things. And I must say that this attraction was one of the better zoos I've ever seen! There are many different animals there for the whole family to see. You won't be disappointed.
We had fun wandering around the zoo before attending a concert at the zoo in the evening. It is a glorious stroll and the park feel for the animals is great. You can visually see most of the animals and the surroundings are well kept. Great place for everyone.
This is my family's 2nd time at the zoo. We love it, it's very clean, and has a lot of animals. Highly Recommend! This time there was too much renovations going on, it made it a little more difficult, but not going to stop us from going !
The Portland, Oregon Zoo is Wonderful! It is a smaller zoo, manageable for small children, but clean, and takes wonderful care of the animals. They have beautiful, natural enclosures. The elephants were a bit crowded, only temporarily, because the zoo is in the middle of construction right now for an elephant habitat that looks wonderful. I can't wait to see it completed, the elephants will have so much room. I love that they don't try to have every animal but concentrate on doing a good job with favorites and on animals that are regional. It is very forest like on the walkways, which is a treat in itself. There is a large grassy area for running around and eating a picnic. They have a cafe (we didn't try it this visit), and the regular snack kiosks. This is a perfect place to spend a 2-3 hours. Be sure you have a stroller if you have small children.
The Oregon Zoo is one of the best zoo's in the northwest I encourage families to go it is a wonderful zoo with lots of interactive exhibits lots of help and lots of concierge there is also lots of food available and also more activities in that area I encourage you to ride the train it is great
