petrified wood gallery

Very interesting and beautiful collection of petrified wood and other artifacts. The two gentlemen (twins) are veterans and very charming and knowledgeable. They USED to own it, but donated it to the community and now work there for fun....

We enjoyed the petrified wood displays immensely. We met the twins, they are such sweet gentlemen and you can tell they love their life's work. They should be very proud... their work is awesome!

I was thinking this was not something I needed to spend time seeing but I was definitely wrong. This was a wonderful place to stop. The petrified wood items are unbelievably beautiful and the staff is really helpful and sweet. For you early birds it opens at 8:00 AM most days. I wish this has been on the website or on the voicemail message because we killed a couple hours thinking it wouldn't be open yet and it had been open for hours by the time we got there.

Well this was a surprise!! My husband said, "we have to stop at this place I heard about." When he told me what is was I just rolled my eyes and said, "ok, whatever." :) It was great!! It's much more than just pieces of petrified wood. Two brothers create beautiful works of art with this wood, some of them so tiny they have to be picked up with tweezers. Most of their work is just for display. They did have some for sale but they were way out of our price range! There is no charge to get in but they kindly accept donations.

I'm giving this a four because it is interesting, unexpected, well maintained and clean. It is not for kids - I think they'd be bored. On the road from Denver to Omaha it is a nice break from the non-scenery of Nebraska, with pleasant staff, a gift shop (with no petrified wood souvenirs for some reason) and clean restrooms. There Is also a small art gallery and some American Indian displays. No admission fee but there is a donation box. In a busy tourist area this place would probably be ignored, but on the long stretch between Denver and Lincoln it stands out. The displays are beautiful and creative.

The two brothers that built many of the displays here must have been really talented. Lots to see, neat displays.

This is one of the most amazing petrified wood gallerys in the country. The building allows one to wander from one display to another to enjoy the incredible art forms made over millions of years. The Kenfield brothers, not only collectors but also artists, have designed astonishing piictures with pieces of petrified wood. The Native American collection is also one of the best. Visiting this gallery is a must.

The twin brothers who own the gallery are as interesting at the exhibits.This is an art form I was unfamiliar with and the sheer variety and beauty of the works is astonishing.Definitely worth a visit.

The Petrified Wood Gallery is a MUST stop and look place. The display of Petrified wood from all over the world is amazing. In addition the collection of Native American arrowheads and artifact showcases are very impressive. The petrified wood art made by brothers Howard and Harvey Kenfield is unbelievable. Upon entering the gallery we were greeted by a very nice man who told us about the collections in detail.

The gallery was an interesting place to visit. The twin brothers who donated the collection and now run the gallery were very hospitable. Lots of examples from all over the world

We really enjoyed our visit here, we met with one of the Kenfield brothers and were just amazed at their artwork. (Twin brothers Howard and Harvey Kenfield spent 50 years picking up arrowheads, petrified wood, fossils, and rocks that they found lying around Ogallala -- and turning it into art!) He was so sweet and explained everything to us. They have really done a great job with this museum, it looks like it belongs in NYC! They had work from local artists on display, along with petrified wood and fossils from around the world. I must admit, out of everything in there, I loved the Kenfield brother's work the best.... My husband and I were doing a road trip from California to Iowa, our goal was to stop at any place we thought might strike our interests. We stopped by and had an opportunity to meet one of the twins and see their amazing collection. The garden in the back was tranquil and lovely. The art that they make is awe inspiring, I had to buy a couple of pieces. I would classify the Petrified Wood Gallery as a MUST SEE while traveling through Nebraska.

What a beautiful collection displayed in awe inspiring ways. Get off the interstate and check this out. You'll never see another collection like it.

Very interesting! Not only do they have a remarkable collection of petrified wood from around the world, and a large collection of arrowheads, but there are art pieces that have been made from bits of petrified wood: music boxes, model houses and wagons, and pictures. Even some of the arrowheads are displayed as art pieces. There was also some local artwork.We actually got there after the museum closed (I think it closed at 4pm?) , and were peeking in the front window, when the woman who worked there came out and asked if we wanted to come in and see the museum (she was still there because they were having a class that evening). What a treat! We had the whole museum to ourselves. It was awesome that she let us come in after hours. It's located across the street from "Front Street", and there is no admission charge other than a voluntary donation box. It was definitely worth a donation - it's truly a little gem of a museum, and worth taking the time to visit.
