Went with several families and had kids ranging from 1.5 to almost 5. I envisioned it being a nightmare, but I was dead wrong. There was plenty to do for kids of all ages, and always nearby, so we could still keep an eye on everyone without worrying that they were a full floor away. This is a great place to bring children.
I went to the Lincoln zoo with my brother and his daughter and my son. It was a interactive zoo however everything cost extra ,i guess that's normal. It was a good way to kill some time. You can get through it within 2 hours easy. It's a very cute little zoo.
This is a great zoo for Children. Not so big that you have to worry about parking or getting lost. You can spend an hour or even more if you want. True it is not the Spectacular Henry Dorley Zoo, but kids love it!
We love the zoo. We can spend an hour or two, which is great with small children. My three year old granddaughter loves it. Fun play areas. Lots of opportunity to interact with animals. You can pet snakes, lizards, goats, llamas, etc. rWe are zoo members and visit three or four times a year. Nice mix, with an annual visit to Henry Doorly Zoo in Omaha, which takes more time, effort and energy!
Don't expect this to compare with Henry Doorly, but, this is definitely a good time-killer for the kids. Our girls love it. There is also a train that takes you on the outside of the zoo to see everything. Worth a try.
I took my grandchildren here and what a huge disappointment. This place is way to small to have any animals. It's ridiculous how small the enclosures are for these animals. The train ride was fun. I don't recommend anyone go here. I do recommend PETA coming here and see the horrible living conditions. The poor horses looked so sad, they keep them tied up on a carousel walking in circles all day.
The Lincoln Zoo in enjoyable for a smaller city like Lincoln. If I let my kids roam, I don't feel like I am going to lose them like I might at a larger zoo. They have some nice snacks and food options if you want to eat there and not leave.
Lots of hands on experiences. Staff is terrific. Zoo treats animals like they are thier children and interaction between visitors and animals is encouraged. Education is part of the experience and the zoo has a Zoo School (part of the Lincoln Public School system). Several special classes and demonstratins for visitors. Zoo is hanidicapped accessable and very well laid out.
This zoo is great for families. It's big enough for little kids for an afternoon outting. Lots of great animals there, and treated great. Also have train and pony rides. My kids love to go there often.
Great size for young children and old Grandma's! Very safe feeling...can let the kids roam. Lots of places to sit in the shade and enjoy watching the children interact with the staff showing the animals. Staff is young and knows the animals and explains about them very well. Enjoyed learning about them. Some rare animals that other, big zoos, don't have! Good munchies. Train ride was fun...as was the conductor! Definitely a zoo to see.
The title of this review is not meant to be disparaging of the Lincoln Zoo at all...just simply the truth. Omaha's Zoo is a mega plex of fun...huge and ranked #1 in the world. Lincoln's zoo is a family oriented nice sized zoo that compliments the capital city of Lincoln. Ages that appreciate it the most are young children and their parents who get a good hands on experience..and the elderly who are looking for a peaceful place to walk, sit and just have a relazing day. No theatres...or huge trains..but a nice smaller train that treks around the zoo property. You could probably see it all in a solid hour or two at the most...and feel like you didn't waste any time doing so.
The Lincoln Children's Zoo is one of the best kept small zoos in the US. It is just the right size for young children to stay interested during their visit. Older children enjoy the opportunity to learn about the animals in a smaller setting so as not to be intimidated by the size. It is definitely a zoo to see when in Lincoln, NE. If you don't, you will miss a local treasure!
This zoo is the right size for young ones as I feel they won't get all tuckered out from walking a lot. It is shaded by large trees for those hot summer days, have a little train to ride to start or end your day and food spots for when the munchies hit you. A large assortment of animals to see and stop to read the info on them. Fun learning experience for this grandma with her grandkids. I highly recommend visiting as I found it to be a lot of fun, the location is great as there are rose gardens to the northwest of the parking lot, and across the street is 'Sunken Gardens' which is a must see Lincoln spot.
We make it a point to visit children's museums wherever we visit. Each has its strengths and weaknesses. This one has a lot of strengths. First, it's not overwhelmingly huge. It's very manageable. The entry floor is set up like a town with hospital, fire department, police, pizza place, bank, vet clinic, sports field, grocery, and post office. The kids (8 & 6) enjoyed each of those areas. Downstairs are some big displays. The very best thing down there (and in the museum as a whole) is the "stage". It is a large stage with changeable backdrop curtains, working stage lights, sound affects, and tons of costumes to choose from. Very cool! We didn't think the water table area was as nice as others we've seen. While my daughter spent a lot of time on stage, my son spent a lot of time in the ball area (creating paths for balls to roll along). We didn't make it to the top floor, but it too, looked interesting. I highly recommend this museum. It has a lot of cool exhibits/play areas, and is in a nice downtown location. We had trouble finding parking initially, but eventually noticed the parking garage catty-corner from the museum...don't know how we missed that! It doesn't compare to the large city children's museum, but definitely worth a visit.
We brought our son here twice, at the ages of 2 and 5. He loved it both times. The pony rides and train cost extra, but the little ones seem to really enjoy them. We are mainly interested in direct interaction with the animals, so feeding the goats, attending the educational shows, and feeding the camels by hand are highlights for us.
