My wife and I really enjoyed our full moon kayak tour with McCloud Outdoors. The owners Charlie and Cindy are great people and they make sure you have a good time. Soon after we were in the water the group saw a Bald Eagle dive down and snag a trout out of the water which was a great start. I think this trip is great for beginners and more experienced kayakers. They serve dessert and champagne on the water while the full moon comes into view. If you are in the area I would have to say it is a must to do a tour with them.
Want to see the beginning of earth . . . or the end? Take the drive to Medicine Lake, site of one of the largest calderas in California and follow the signs to Glass Mountain. Lava flows, obsidian deposits, and pumice abound. It is dormant, but the hardened great masses of formerly molten minerals will have you in awe. This could be the beginning of any planet; however, it is our planet and you will be witness to what our earth was.
This is one of the most fun things I have ever done! I am not very outdoorsy, but I can Kayak. Who knew? The owners, Charlie and Cindy, with the help of their staff, take all precautions to keep you safe, so you can have a fantastic time. You show up at the Mc Cloud Reservoir, are given instructions, climb into your assigned kayak and paddle out for the best adventure of your life. Being on the lake as the full moon is coming up is so awesome. It's quite and peaceful. Do yourself a favor and join in the fun. They offer other day kayaking as well.
We had came before, when the Shasta Diner Train was running and I had lost all my picture and had to return to redo my pictures of Mt Shasta, Burning Falls etc. This town is a fantastic place to visit as there are still a lot of interesting things to see recommend very highly to visit
My wife and I traveled to McCloud California for a short getaway. We have wanted to try kayaking for some time. After looking on the internet and finding that McCloud Outdoors offered kayak rentals we decided to try it. We were amazed by how much help the owners of the company were to us. They set us up with really great equipment, hauled it to the local lake and made sure we were comfortable with it's use. This company is a winner and is owned and operated by some genuinely nice people who are excited to share what they know about outdoor adventures. Thank you McCloud Outdoors!
Liked all of it except the River Lodge Restaurant which is way over priced and food is sub standard. McCloud itself is amazing and The Guest House is an amazing bed and breakfast.
We have visited the McCloud Lake area several times, but never stumbled upon this great Rental/Outfitters establishment. We were up in the Shasta/McCloud area for 4th of July weekend and saw a little sign for this place in downtown McCloud. So glad we did. We stopped in and got a great deal of information from Cindy on places to fish and much more. We called later that night to reserve kayaks and Cindy helped us decide on the best available units for us and our 2 dogs. I love that they meet you out at the boat launch with everything you need, kayaks, life preservers (for the dogs too) and a cooler. The equipment was all in great condition and we enjoyed 5 hours of beautiful time on the water. When we were done, we just put the kayaks in a decided place and called for pick up. So fun, so easy, we will definitely do again and highly recommend.
George & I went together with another couple on this lovely kayak trip on McCloud Lake in McCloud, CA. We had heard of the adventure from a flyer in a local restaurant. We met the company at the McCloud Marina. They brought all the equipment and it was all clean & in good repair. They even had our names on the boats. George & I were in a tandem kayak and the other couple were in singles. There was a large group booked that night - I believe there were 16 boats and 21 people. The 3 guides worked together as a competent team and got everyone in the water in about 45 minutes. One guide took a paddle boat with snacks and drinks to wait for us and the other 2 guides took us out in the lake. We saw several eagles and enjoyed the easy paddling on the smooth waters of McCloud Lake. As it started to get dusky, the guides led us around an island, letting anyone who wished to go ashore and then showed us to the paddle boat where a yummy dessert and several choices of beverage (including champagne) were passed out. We sat in our kayaks enjoying the snack while the moon came up over the mountain. We were lucky enough to enjoy the "Super" moon - the biggest one for this year. After the moon had fully risen, we headed out for a night paddle. It was quite a lovely experience. Definitely not strenous. The tour was scheduled to end at 10pm, but as we were all enjoying ourselves, the guides happily let us continue our paddling until almost 11pm. We highly recommend that anyone in the area take advantage of this adventure - if not lucky enough to be there during the full moon, they do several other tours and rent equipment if you want to go on your own.
