This is a great park to go to for all kinds of outdoor activities. You can hike or bike around the lake, have a nice picnic or feed the ducks and geese which is what we really enjoy doing. The newer bathrooms have always been nice and clean. The mining town equipment is interesting to look at also. There is a lower park and an upper park. The lower park can be accessed by Ranch Lane and the upper park can be accessed by Greenhorn Rd. We love coming to this park every time we are in Yreka!
I visited with my three year old for some peace and quiet. It was beautiful and I loved that they have a fenced in playground.
The park is clean with some interesting gold mining artifacts. Great place for a picnic. There are walking trails and trails for bicycles. Good for walks in the woods.
Very cool park with lots of trails and cool stuff to look at. There is a lot of old miner town equipment and such. If you are into wildlife, the deer flood the park at dusk and are not very afraid. You can get close enough to snap a great picture.
Cute little park. Fun for the kids. Lots of goose poop everywhere and I mean EVERYWHERE. If you are pucjing a stroller you absolutely cannot avoid it. Also the geese are not afraid of you. My 2 year old son wanted to run up to them and when he realized they weren't gonna run away and started running at him he changed his mind and I had to pick him up otherwise they might have pecked at him. We were that close.
Greenhorn Park is a nice place to go for a walk, play soccer, or enjoy a BBQ. The lake has fish, ducks, turtles, and now pelicans. It is very pleasant there.
We moved here not too long ago and we have fallen in love with this park. We practically come here everyday to walk the dog, ride bikes or trail run. I have not fished here yet, but have heard that it has many fish in the lake. The grounds are clean as are the restrooms. We joined one of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Guided Nature Walks earlier this week and we learned much about the trees and shrubs. They have two more guided walks in the park: Nov. 20 and Dec. 18. I highly recommend coming out if you have the time.
fun park, nice walking area and trails. lots of toys for the kids the Yreka assay office, water wheel and mining items were very cool. would defiantly visit again
Greenhorn park is a interesting place folk lore tells tall tails of how the park was created many boast it was mining that formed the lake which is partly true seeing that yreka was part of the gold rush, the lake is part of a long creek that feeds cold mountain snow melt and rain run off.If gold is what you look for you can find it in the creek that forms the lake, take a gold pan and a fishing pole cause the fishing there is great I catch many different types of fish there including flathead catfish in the early evening time before sunset and early morning, sunrise.
Greenhorn Park is the gem of Yreka. Our family practically lives here in the summer. Love the shaded running/hiking/biking trails, paved trail around the lake, 2 parks, old miners town, and the lake where we fish, kayak, and feed the geese. Absolutely the best Yreka has to offer.
We went here for a small picnic with friends and then went for a walk around the lake. Not the greatest park, but not bad as well
The lake is really quite beautiful, with lots of waterfowl, and a nice hiking trail around the lake. There are also multiple playgrounds, a horsehoe pit, and places to play ball. The bathrooms are kept spotless, and the park always feels safe. Whether we go there to walk our dog, or to picnic, or for a concert, we always enjoy the relaxed atmosphere.
Arboretum, great reservoir for views and fishing, hiking trails amd a suberb collection of mining-era buildings resembling a 19th century mining village. Green lawns, picnicking areas and plenty for kids to safely explore.
It's a pretty location but too much bird poop. It's hard to walk because of it.
Lots of trails to hike on, and a cool "ghost town" to explore. Lots of old mining equipment to examine. They've recently redone the playground and bathrooms to make it a much cleaner park. Good blackberries in August and September too.
