Was looking for a vantage point to get some pictures of the coast when we found a turnoff and parking meters. After paying for parking we realized we were a the Huntington Dog Beach. We still enjoyed the views and scenery. The coast always has a different view from each perspective. A nice stop if even not intended!!
One of the few places left in Southern Califorina where you and your Best Friend can enjoy the Sand & Surf. Be careful with you small dogs! Many don't follow the rules of 'on leash' ! Just pick up after your dog and enjoy!!!
My dog loves it here! Much better than a small fenced in, in land dog park -- there are no fences, just a huge expanse of dog friendly beach. It is a great spot. There should be more of these in coastal California. Bring your own poop bags. They have dispensers but the last few times that I was there, they were empty. I always bring extras to share.
This Beach is just wonderful, Sometimes parking is a full like most of Southern California so you have to wait or circle around for a bit, and you have to pay per hour for parking, however its never that big of a deal cuz the Happiness it brings watching your Dog jump into the waves and Run through the Sand with other dogs is priceless! Theres a few public bathrooms however they do have a camera in them for some weird reason, and there is a sign that lets you know your on camara... There is Doggy waste Bags the beach provides, however sometimes there out so please bring your own and pick up after your pets! Pack it in and pack it out. Its a great beach and pretty clean overall! Better than the Long Beach Dog Beach!
We went during the week it was quiet, we walked down a little ways and had some space to our selves. Our dog had a great time! There is a drop off between the road and ocean so he couldn't run onto the road. He made lots of friends and burned off some energy. The weekend was a little different it was packed, and he is a small dog so we had to be careful of big dogs trampling him.
Great destination for people and their doggies. Lots of both especially on weekends and holidays. You must clean up after your pooch. But what fun on the sand and in the water with your pet and other visiting pets. Or just watching them. There is even a skateboarding bulldog. You will see the most unusual things.
I suppose the dog beach is great for dog owners, however I have been riding my bicycle on the bike trail since 1983. I follow the speed limit and am very careful because some of the most dangerous people on the bike trail are dog owners. My biggest complaint are people walking their dogs on long leashes. They allow their dog to cross to the other side of the bike trail and completely block the trail. They don't seem to have any idea about the danger they create and the dogs can cross very quickly before the dog owner even comprehends what has happened.
Rare place where you can actually let Rufus off the leash to play and run like a banshee - he or shw will love it! Just do be careful to control your dog and keep an eye out for other dogs - sometimes they will get in a brawl... :)
My labrador loves dog beach. She has so much energy, and she retrieves tennis balls that are thrown into the ocean. She surfs back into shore to give you the tennis ball so that she can swim and retrieve over and over again. This is a great beach to exercise your dogs.
Love watching the dogs run around and interact with each other. They're all so playful and friendly.
We were visiting from out of town so didn't have a pet with us. We had walked on the cliff but decided to walk on the sand on the way back to the hotel. It was such fun to watch the variety of dogs and how they enjoyed playing in the water and chasing things in the sand. Since it sits down at the beach, dogs can't reach the road from here so it's very safe of the dogs
We took the dog to the Beach on 3 days. It was a blast. The dogs seemed to enjoy playing with each other and havingfun in the Pacific Ocean.
Always a terrific place to take a stroll on the beach, with or without a dog (or dogs). Any time of day is great. Vast majority of dogs and dog owners are very social and well-behaved. Wonderful beach. Very family oriented atmosphere without ever feeling crowded. Dogs LOVE it!!! We love it!! It's one of our favorite spots in Southern California. No elevator access to this beach, however. Metered Pay Parking is up on Highway, with paved bicycle/pedestrian way leading down to beach. If you have a dog, or LIKE dogs, you HAVE to visit Dog Beach!
Very safe for the dogs because you walk down the cliffs to get to the beach and they are far from the streets. Newbies are afraid their dogs might run away, but at least they can't get to the street. Give your dog more credit...he'll stay with you and not fight. Just keep moving and he'll tag along. Don't be afraid to take off their leash. They'll love you for it. I always take mine straight to Dirty Dawg Wash afterwards to wash off the sand on their tummies.
Dog park in itself is a nice place and idea, however, the fact that so many dog owners choose to NOT pick up their dogs poop leaves this place much less desirable. Be prepared to watch your every step while at dog beach!
