Wonderful Pre-Columbian Peruvian textiles and Mexican ceramics on view, but the one Diego Rivera was out on loan. Not much permanent collection on view. Some contemporary art. This museum is worth a visit for those who love art and are already in Fresno. Museum needs supporting!
Enjoyed visiting this museum. It is small and needs a bit of updating. The Norman Rockwell exhibit was very good. Garden area is in need of updating and repair.
always good exhibits. This time it was family day so more people and children than usual, difficult to see all exhibits with so many children, also difficult to find a place to sit as I am disabled and unable to stand for long. next time I could call and ask if any events are going on. volunteers all helpful
The current exhibition "Rock On" - Mural photographs of famous rock mucians from the 60's 70's and 80's, is getting lots of buzz! The photo of Huey Lewis at the microphone, has appeared on his facebook page and he's directing his fans to Fresno, CA to see it. What about holding a tribute musical show to go with the Stones, Beatles, Little Richard, Jefferson Starship images, etc? Check out www.fresnoartmuseum.org for new announcements. Maybe this could turn into FAMSTOCK this summer? Fresno is a mecca for Mid Century Modern buffs; we can still find bargains in art, collectibles, and architecture. it's stratigically placed, as a stop off to many destinations.
nice collection. in a bad part of town and very child unfriendly. my 2 quiet children were followed around and shushed repeatedly when they werent running or speaking any louder than any adult. kind of sad.
This facility is compact and welcoming. There is an excellent collection of galleries presenting permanent and temporary exhibitions. There is also a very nice small theater where lectures, plays and othe entertainments are presented.
While it does not have the resources of a major metropolitan museum, the permanent collection of Mexican sculpture and European prints is superb. The highlight of the FAM is the monthly special exhibits which cover a wide range of contemporary art which are well curated and beautifully displayed.
This is a very small local modern art museum. The collection is nice but does not represent a very broad range of styles. All and all a good museum, but I wish it had more community support so it could expand.
Excellent shows. Upcoming show is Corky Normart: 50 years of Downtown, Anne Paige the Council of 100 Distringuished Woman artist for 2013 and Ansel Adams opening September 27, 2013
Excellently curated and solidly placed right on the California contemporary arts front. I can't wait to return. We saw Emmy Lou Packard: Diego, Frida and Me, several other shows including an impressive collection of Meso American artifacts, contemporary paintings, sculpture, and a respectable sculpture garden. And the expertly constructed gowns from Trashique were are marvelous surprise. When is my next trip?
fantastic display topics and variety love that all the talented locals are promoted as should be keeps the hometown feeling alive
A cultural jewel in Fresno's limited arts landscape! I would highly recommend a visit. The building and garden are nicely architected, and the exhibits tend to be quite well done.
I remember going here on field trips when I was in Junior High. I now attend the "Men Who Cook" event annually. It's a great place!
The Fresno Art Museum is another Fresno treasure. They often have evening entertainement that is very reasonably priced, and usually a vendor selling food- and the entertainment has always been excellent! They hae eclectic artists, so check their web site or the Fresno Bee. They have permanent art collections and rotating collections. Even if I don't quite appreciate what they have, I love that we can go there and see something that is usually reserved for the large cities in CA.
Loved the sculpture section. Very charming and up lifting.
