If you've never seen 50+ year old Rhododendrons, this is an absolute must. The height of the bloom is on or about Mothers Day. They have an incredible amount of plants of just about every color imaginable. They also carry bedding plants and other desirable landscape plants. The prices are more than reasonable and they will gladly give you all the information you need to make the plants thrive.
Well, if it's this time of year (April-May), I would definitely suggest Whitney Gardens in Brinnon, WA. The original "gardener" was a Rhododendron hybridizer and you will be viewing beautiful TREEsized rhodies, not little shrubby bushes. Around early May, this place will be a riot of color and very pleasurable. Entry is by donation, not a set fee. Also, you can enjoy a nursery specializing in this plant family as well as Japanese maples and other NW perennials. There is a nearby state park which has mountain & Hood Canal access and you can often see Roosevelt Elk in the vicinity. Do your homework and you can also enjoy local waterfalls....
I liked all of the other plants especially the Japanese Maple selection. I'm not a fan of rhododendrons so that part was the least interesting for me.
Lovely place to stop in Brinon for a break or looking to purchase' Walk through the Nursery and enjoy the smells and delightful color.
