We are indeed blessed to live in Mercer Island with our beloved, scenic and historic, parks and in particular our Luther Burbank Park is so wonderful for people of all ages, and their dogs, too! There is a recent small handbook about the park available at Island Books, which has a fascinating list of all the birds identified there, plus great photos, a map and history of the park. Let's all work to keep this a park for our citizens and visitors, and not a commuter parking lot.
Rated number 1 playground on Mercer Island by our children (ages 7 & 8) - good range of equipment in great condition
I like this quietly hidden park being so accessible to the larger Eastside communities. Great for walking and for walking your dogs on a leash. It's very easy to locate from the I-90 bridge in both directions. It's large enough to make it worth my while to visit.
I have walked this park for years with my dog and it has been a wonderful haven for dog owners although I dislike the sand that was added. For me mud is preferable to the sand that coats the skin of our dog. Yet still I give 5 stars because of the availability of the lake on its off leash premises. But now I want to add an additional star for the play area. As the grandmother to an active three year old { aren't they all } I love seeing the safe yet challenging activities available from the zip line to the web climb with swings, slides and soft landings. This is the best park I have visited for all ages. Thank YOU Mercer Island Parks Department, maintenance crew and the artists who are painting a wall at the tennis courts with an ocean scene.
This park has everything for all ages great to just walk in Good swimming beach with guards in the summer a dog area Shakespeare in the park in july and a newly remodeled children's play area.
We were in the area and decided to check out the Dog Park ---- well maintained, lots of space, and it's even waterfront --- a great feature if your dog needs to cool off. We stayed about 1/2 hour while our dog enjoyed himself and met some new friends. The rest of the park looks beautiful, although we didn't have an opportunity to explore it all.
This is one of the best local parks in the Seattle Area. Grab your lunch and go. There is a great playground for kids including a zipline. A small rock shoreline allows you access the lakes and the water is pretty warm right now. There is also a trail, tennis courts, and sailing classes for the little ones. Great way to spend a sunny day. Parking can be difficult to find at times but there is overflow parking which is closer to the freeway.
This park has it all. It has tennis courts, basketball courts, mega kids playground, a beach for swimming, lots of paths to go walking or jogging, and even a dock for fishing. This park is my favorite "urban park" because of the abundance of activities. The beach is always clean and the park is maintained very well. The only issue is that on busy days it can be a challenge to find a parking spot. Perfect place to take the kids on a sunny day.
Zip line, merry-go-round, and other fun activities including on-site restrooms, tennis court, dog parks, and BEAUTIFUL lake view. We love going to walk, ride kids bikes, picnic, and play.
Something here for everyone - water all around with great views of Seattle, Madison Park, the east channel, and over toward Bellevue. There is a great off leash dog park, tennis courts, playground, and lots of acreage in which to roam or have a picnic.
Started out as a work camp for wayward boys; became a orchard; see part of the community with MI services an offshoot of the MI social services; beautiful dog park; walks along the beach; great for kids
Easy access from parking lot to off-leash dog park is a plus, and separate fenced off-leash areas for small, and for large dogs makes for safe playing. The larger corral has beach access. The playground is all sand, and you'll be glad to know there are dog showers available just outside the off-leash area. How cool is that? Once the pooches have had their exercise there's still more to explore, we especially like the natural growth area with boardwalks and benches. Situated in the middle of Lake Washington, this park is easy to reach from both Seattle and the east side, but watch-out for peak traffic hours.. In the summer this is a sweet location for a picnic on the sloped meadows, near the piers, or on the beaches looking out over Lake Washington. This is a place with history, the red brick building is intriguing, you can read up on it on location, and/or visit Seattle's excellent History Link Website.
I love that this park is entirely surrounded by water. A great place to go on a hot day. You can sit on the cement pier, on the small beach or on a big expanse of lawn dotted with trees and watch the boats on the water. The downside of this park is that it's not very big so you can't take a very long walk. There's a cordoned off dog area and dog beach which is popular. Even a dog shower!
Lots of open spaces, convenient to both Seattle and the Eastside.
Luther Burbank is a great park that isn't well know and isn't terribly well used. It has great spaces, a nice off-leash dog park, and large docks that can be accessed by boat. There are fantastic sailing programs (sand point) run out of Luther in the summer, and the fireworks for the Mercer Island Anniversary are superb. It's also a nice spot for a family picnic.
