When you set out on the road less traveled, you never know where the next turn will take you, and you don't know if there will beverages. :-) For the adventurous North Central Washington traveler, the Okanogan Highlands Scenic Loop will deliver you to the quaint Western-facaded micro town of Chesaw, home of the 4th of July Rodeo. Green hills surround the meadows of Myers Creek, cows moo in the distance and deer barely look up from their munching to note your passing. There are 4 businesses in Chesaw, the Mercantile and Chesaw store for groceries, the famous Chesaw Tavern that exudes authentic old west neighbor cheer, and low and behold, an art gallery with espresso called Fiona at Chesaw. Comfy chairs await the weary traveler, who can order up a latte, coffee or tea, relax with local company and peruse the works of local artists, read local history in the free library, and maybe play a tune or two with local musicians who hang out with the owner and jam when time allows. Gardeners share plants and produce, fiber artists knit and talk, and folks wander in to relax and enjoy a homemade scone or two. I love dropping by Fiona Gallery, sitting and talking with whoever drops in and catching up on local happenings. Visitors from around the world find their way here, share their stories, escape the rain or heat. Lost Lake is about 9 miles up the road, so it's a good place to hydrate if you are on a bike. You can also find adorable vintage second hand items and handmade cards and other crafts. Fiona at Chesaw is a great place to stop in and taste the local flavor. Friendly, affordable and unique.
