What a wonderful facility staffed with attentive people who really care about your experience. This winery is a refreshing, beautiful oasis in the high desert. We got to learn about the winemaking process, actually got to try wine straight out a barrel to learn more about French vs American oak, toasting qualities, other details of great wine-making. Fabulous experience!
... to avoid the crowds, and to find the gems off the beaten path. Columbia Crest Winery is a spectacular facility from a visual appeal aspect. We were traveling from the Oregon coast toward home in Idaho, and decided to travel north on 221 toward Richland and the Bookwalter winery. Columbia Crest was on the way so we stopped - there is plenty of parking even for RVs, however none of the RV parking was in the shade.Interestingly, the parking lot had at least a dozen cars randomly distributed, but no one was in the winery which led us to believe that the vehicles were employees told to park there to give the illusion that the place was busy. This was our third visit, and experienced the same each time. The wines are mid-range Washington wines, and I would recommend asking of the wines are distributed. If they are, purchase them at your local grocery store, which will often be cheaper. If you make purchases at the winery, ensure that they are available only at the winery, and that you really want to pay a premium price.
Columbia crest winery is a little off the beaten path in the horse haven hills AVA, but the quality of wines this mega vintner produces is wonderful.I've been drinking their wines for over 40 yeas and I am amazed at the great quality wines , both red and whites they produce.Super nice folks in the tasting room, what a great job they do!Thanks Mikw
I really enjoy cc merlots so decided to visit the winery. It is a beautiful french chateau type of building and just gorgeous inside and out. Wine tasting was free. Love that! At it was fun to try wines you can only buy at the winery or online. They also have a cute boutique shop with some good chocolates, rubs, other food items and unique wine gifts. The wine is full bodied, earthy, with a hint of fruitiness (merlots). The value for this wine is excellent.
We visited Columbia Crest specifically because it is our go-to wine. It is a distance (well worth it) from Prosser but we found the drive across wide open spaces to be relaxing. The winery is extraordinarily beautiful and next time we will bring a picnic lunch so we can enjoy the ambiance longer. The self-guided tour is short but sweet, Mary at the wine bar was knowledgeable and we enjoyed talking to her about the wines and winery.Having experienced many wineries in all areas of California, we can honestly say that this winery visit was the best - no crowds - and encourages us to return to Washington State to experience other wineries. Washington wines have become our favorites.
Columbia Crest has been a reliable source for good, reasonably priced wines for years. Their tasting provided an opportunity to check out other wines that we haven't seen widely distributed. Several were very, very good. It was definitely worth the side-trip down from Prosser.
We really enjoyed our wine tasting experience at Columbia Crest. The ladies in both the wine bar and the store were very friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. We stayed on the beautiful grounds for a nice picnic and they even provided glasses for our wine! CC has a nice selection of reasonably prices wines that are very good. We have experienced numerous wine tastings at venues from California to Maui and this ranks among the best. There is a $5.00 tasting fee but can be used toward a purchase of their Estate wines. They had some good specials but were out of a couple which was our only disappointment.
Just a beautiful property with very nice picnic area and pond. We love to come and pick some nice wine and maybe some chocolates. Also some wine for later. The staff is always pleasant and friendly.
We really enjoyed our short stop at this winery. Though we had the kids with us and skipped the wine tasting the stop was a good break from the road trip and gave a basic overview of how wine is made which was interesting for the kids. The facilities were beautiful and the real estate was amazing. Worth a visit!
Worth it to visit this beautiful winery. Excellent taste of all varies of wine! So friendly staff enjoyed chatting with us. Glad we bought two bottles from them and we will drink on our special night.
The grounds are really, really nice and it's a great place to bring a picnic lunch and enjoy some wine. We have frequented the place more than once and we will continue to go there for day trips for years to come. We really enjoy the place!
While a disappointing wine tour, the facility has the charm of older Napa valley wineries. Good tasting room, shopping and small selection of food. Nice shaded lake to sip wine and have lunch. Always worth the stop, and saves a few miles, on the Boise-Seattle road.
Columbia Crest winery is worth the drive along WA Hwy 14 to Paterson. Located a couple of hundred feet above the Columbia River, with sweeping views is the largest winery in the Pacific Northwest. Columbia Crest is one of the Ste. Michelle labels, with Altria as the parent company. As wonderful as the winery facilities are, the employees there simple sell the wine. This is wine on a massive scale, so don't expect an insightful education on artisan wine creation.
She said YES over a bottle of Reserve and a terrific picnic lunch, followed up by a little frisbee action on the lawn, with the labrador retriever! While that was nearly 10 years ago, every visit to this estate winery brings back all that joy! Make this trip a forever memory. Cheers!
It was well worth the trip out to the winery for the excellent service and great wine tasting!
