Who wouldn't want a picture of a giant peach? The "peachoid" is a water tower that looks like a peach - it really, really does. It also looks like something else from a certain angle, but we won't go there. Anyway, it's worth a stop for a picture!
Look at it while you travel on I-85. No need to stop. Amazing water tower. Yes it is a water tower, featured on a cable TV program. No facilities and the closer you get the harder it is to take in the entire sitght.
Part of the reason I moved to Gaffney was that peach. Lol I thought it was cool because I saw House of Cards. Well, it's neat to take your picture there but there isn't anything else to do there but sit or go eat at Fatz, which is right next to it. They're painting it right now, so I don't know how much you'll see of it.
You can see this water tower as you pass Gaffney on I-85. No need to really pull over as you could snap a quick picture but there is a pull in area at the tower itself if you want to stay a few minutes. The Peachoid is located next to Fatz restaurant on the frontage road.
The Peachoid is a feature on an episode of one of my favorite shows, "House of Cards". I've driven by countless times, but as I was moving from North Carolina to California, I decided to stop by the water tower and snap some photos. The landmark is really unique, and a signature of the state of South Carolina. Worth a stop. Incredibly easy to get to off the highway; just follow the signs when you exit I-85. Check out my photos and feel free to share your comments and experiences on my website!www.wanderlust-creative.com
My daughter has not stopped talking about the "peach butt" she saw in South Carolina. Thanks for making a road trip with kids a little more fun!
As an "attraction" there's nothing to do but look up and take some pictures. As a unique landmark well yeah!! Even at 65mph and not even stopping.Where else in the world is there an 135 foot peach shaped water tower? A landmark from it's beginning in 1981. Look it up on Wikipedia; Peachiod. If you're hungry drop into FATZ restaurant right beside the peach.
This is a water tower visible from the interstate. Its claim to fame is that the top has been shaped like a peach down to details like a leaf, small nub at teh base and large crack along one side. The artwork is well done, and it is an interesting spot to stop for five minutes and get some pictures. The tower is accessible from interstate exits to just the north and south. Parking is probably best at the adjacent Fatz restaurant.
A classic highway landmark, we usually make a stop at the Peachoid when we travel along Interstate 85 and enjoy getting family pictures under the giant peach. There are picnic tables here as well but it's also next to a FATZ restaurant so we usually dine in when we pass through town.
You decide! Or maybe "Kitsch Turned Clever" if the Peachoid has it's own name, Facebook page, Trip Advisor travel review and feature on a popular Netflix serial drama. I've passed this landmark hundreds of times in my travels between Charlotte and Atlanta. Driving by at 70 mph will give you an eyeful of all you need to see. It's very anatomically correct for a peach or a hiney with hemorrhoids - once again, you decide! I prefer the peach!
Just a giant peach water tower beside I 85, but worth a look if you are in the area. In season, Abbott's peach house there is great to stop at for fresh fruit and veggies, and then there is Fatz under the Peach.
Stopped by the Peachoid to get the classic kid's pictures in front of it. The kids had a ball. Not something to spend a lot of time, but a good break for a quick, fun, photo op....
We stopped here because we are huge fans of House of Cards and wanted pictures. It's free and pretty easy to find. There's a driveway up to it, but we parked in the parking lot of the cafe next to it. You need to walk most of the way back to the road to make it fit into a picture with you.
We drove around a bit to get the best view and got a fine shot of the Peachoid. What a kick. Wouldn't drive a longgg way to see it but it certainly is worth keeping your eyes open for if u are in the vicinity. Picnic tables are available and a cafe next door.
We definitely saw the Peachoid from I-85 as you can't possibly miss it. We did not have time to stop and take pictures. We are in the process of moving there and were house hunting. It's really too bad that we did not check trip advisor first on places to eat or we would have stopped at Sunny' s Donuts. We did not read the reviews on that place until we got back home. We will becoming back a lot more until we get moved so we will have a chance to stop and try them.
