This started out as a ski resort - but with our unpredicatable winters it nearly went away. Then either new management or owners came in an realized this place could be used for 'off season' events. The scenery is beautiful and if the weather cooperates, a lovely place for festivals, beer expos, music jams, wing fests - you name it. This past year I attended about three events here with the newest one being the Celtic Festival. That one will need a few years to grow, but even as small as it was the first year, it was well done and fun.
We visited Tussey Mountain this December. Unfortunately, it's been unseasonably warm so Tussey only had one slope open. I cannot give a fair review on their trails but I will say my son enjoyed the trail that was open. While at Tussey, my daughter and I, and our friends, took ski lessons. The instructors here are very patient and are very helpful. They were nice and informative and tried very hard to make sure we were getting the basics of skiing. The prices were also great. We were glad that our first lesson was with Nick and Garrett. If your learning to ski, we would definitely recommend Tussey Mountain's staff. They were great!
Attended a family wedding here. Nice change from the usual venue. The ceremony was held on the patio. They opened up the ski lift for the guests while wedding pictures were being taken on the mountain. The view coming down was lovely. The reception was inside with a nice buffet meal. It was a bit crowded with 200 guests but there was a nice view looking out all the windows in the lodge. There was a beautiful red sunset after a cloudy day. Nice ending to the day.
Gorgeous scenery in the mountains! Went with family. Kids loved the go-carts. Each adults went with a child. And miniature golf there was beautiful! We all enjoyed ourselves immensely! Very pleasant and accommodating staff. Would definitely come again!
Tussey Mountain is only a few miles from Penn State. Everyone knows that Tussey is the local place to go skiing in the winter. It's small but perfect for teens, amateurs, and locals. However, Tussey Mountain also offers some fun activities in the summer, too. There are Go-Karts, miniature golf, a driving range, and batting cages. All are fun, especially for teenagers. It is a little expensive, though. So probably not some place to go every day. We have gone two or three times each summer and there has never been many people there. They have a skate park for skateboards and scooters. We saw lots of young kids spending the day practicing their skills and having fun. You can get some concession type refreshments for a snack or lunch, too. The food was good and wasn't overpriced. Food is more expensive in the lodge during ski season, though. They have a small pond for "catch and release" fishing. They have a nice facility to have parties and family gatherings there, too. On some Friday nights, in the summer, they show a movie on a big screen at the base of the mountain. Something different to do on a nice summer evening and not expensive.
I've never actually been Skiing here, only to their summer events. Wingfest, wine tastings, lift rides at sunset, you name it. It's a lovely area and fun for a romantic date night or outing with friends.
A quick ski getaway at a nice facility. Very close to Penn State University and a huge variety of great restaurants and lodging facilities plus winter sports at Penn State
I prefer to ski on other mountains. I am a skier, and the slopes were not very wide and were icy. Not much they can change for being in PA. Everyone was friendly but if you can travel a farther distance go to another mountain.
We took our family here on a Wednesday afternoon. There was no crowd and all of the attractions were reasonably priced. We rode go karts, played miniature golf, arcade games, batting cages and a driving range. It was an awesome afternoon with the family and we will definitely be back.
Friends were married at Tussey Mountain and it was absolutely beautiful. The ceremony was held on the patio behind the lodge and the reception in the lodge. The views are amazing from the lodge windows. The food was delicious and it's probably the most fun i've ever had at a wedding.
Can't beat Tussey for convenience (live in State College), but I wouldn't drive far to get here, it's too small to compete with Blue Knob, but for a couple hours of skiing, it's decent. Sort on vertical, and really only has about 5 or 6 runs. I wish they would get the snowmaking on Shamokin - it seriously limits their terrain. Pretty much needs to relay on snowmaking, and they do ok with grooming. Kids programs are great, and the two hour pass is handy, but their prices are a bit too high considering....
I went to see a movie at Tussey Mountain. I love that they don't price gauge their customers. Movie $1, parking free, burgers and hotdogs grilled on-site. A person can have a great time and dinner here for under $5... and the view is great too!
Close to home but very short slopes. Be sure to pack plenty of energy bars to keep you on the slopes and running the loop.
The mini golf course is in good condition but it's a very easy course. If you are taking children I would advise lots of sunscreen because the course is completely in the sun.
There is a lot to do at Tussey and enjoy the outdoors. Good for the entire family to enjoy.
