alpena bi-path

The City of Alpena has about 14 miles of bicycle path much of which is along either the Great Lake (Huron) or the Thunder Bay River. There are beautiful scenic views protected from traffic.

This is a great way to see most of Alpena. I especially love the area from Sytek Park through the woods to the cemetery - just beautiful!! And the area behind the fair grounds is also a great place to see.

Maybe we did it wrong. We started at Duck Park. Along the way we enjoyed the sights and sounds of a commercial district, fairgrounds, cemetery, and high speed traffic. It was magical, in the, I wish I could magically be done and out of here kind of way. We did see 2 species of ducks and some Canada geese. Be still my beating heart.

Miles of paved pathways that wind through the city along the river and Lake Huron. Many places to stop and rest and take in the scenery. Beautiful

Loved the miles of scenic trails! It does hit some residential areas, but it's still very nice. Used it for biking, rollerblading, running and walking.

This trail is a wonderful trail that runs along the Thunder Bay a river in multiple loops. Relatively flat with many scenic views. An unexpected surprise for such a small town.

This is a great way to see Alpena right downtown, along Lake Huron, as well as along the Thunder Bay River. There is a total of almost 16 miles to bike on. Some very pretty sites along the way. Really love biking here and I try to do it as much as possible in the summer. Biking to Scoops Ice Cream Shoppe sometimes defeats the purpose of my exercise routine, but it's worth it! ;)

The community has made a great effort to add trails to their town, considering its not a rich community. Great network of trails and now connects to a trail system that extends for 90 miles to Mackinaw City and Cheboygan via a new rail trail.

Path follows the Thunder Bay River, Thunder Bay, the fairgrounds, and winds through downtown and some nice residential neighborhoods.
