This is close to home and a great place for a walk with nature. You never know what group of animals might be around the next corner. Birds, deer, raccoons, rabbits, even herons. During different times of the year, many great family acrtivties
Great for kids, lots of things to see and do. The staff is very knowledgeable and helpful. Beautiful things to see.
Lovely place! During half an hour we saw 4 deers, dozen squirrels and Blue Jay bird. In October all the area is full of autumn colors!
It is a walk in the woods type of place.I will start by saying that I did see two deer, A squirrel and A chipmunk. That being said I was disappointed by the lack of critters. Some food plots would help, a few more bird houses (there were a couple) something to attract critters, some added wild flowers something. I was not easily amused here. However the price was spot on, it was free so I got what I paid for.
My wife and I took two of our grand-children (aged 5 and 3) there on a Friday in July. Ok, so the weather was kind to us, which obviously helped, but the kids absolutely loved it! We took a picnic and ate it outside on the specially allocated tables and benches dotted around the "Boulders" and "Bear Caves", etc., - names conjured up in the minds of our littl'uns for the faux-rock structures strategically placed there to encourage the kids to use their imagination. The trails were great - well-kept, clearly marked and easy for even the smallest kiddies to walk around. No, despite our 'pretend 'precautionary caveats to the girls, of course we didn't see any "bears", but we did see lots of squirrels, birds, beetles, dragonflies, and chipmunks, as well as fish in the tributary of the Rouge river (made famous by Henry Ford's automotive plant) which meanders throughout the woods. Although (unlike others who'd been there the day before) we didn't spot any deer, the kiddies had great fun studying all the fungi and the multitude of "beasties" living in and around the hollow, fallen tree-trunks which litter the "forest" floor. After a wonderful walk around several of the trails, the younger one still had just about enough energy to enjoy looking at all the stuffed animals, birds, etc inside the Nature Center building itself, and even to join her big sister playing in and around the "dinosaur" skeleton placed there for exactly that purpose by the most friendly, helpful and charming volunteer staff of the Center, who are to be given every credit for their great, unselfish and caring work. We'll definitely be back for another "Bear Hunt" and, who knows, next time we might even see one! Or at least a deer, maybe.
We usually go in the fall when the leaves are changing. The kids love walking thru the woods crunching on the dry leaves and we always see deer. We did the Halloween walk in the woods last year and it is definitely geared towards kids 8+ years old. Mine grew bored quickly with the nature lessons at each stop, however, I'm sure as they get older they will enjoy the tidbits of information presented to them. After the walk, there were donuts and cider. Nice little fall event, but will wait a few years before we do it again. (There is a fee for this event and you must pre-register)
Beautifully maintained trails! The girls & I had a very nice time. It's a good place to go if you just want to get out into nature to relax, sketch, bird watch etc. The only reason why I didn't give it an excellent rating is because I was hoping for a longer hike. So especially if your not into getting in milage but want to get out, this is the place.
Nice trails, lots of wildlife and my kids love the activities. Would recommend to locals for events. The city of Troy maintains this place very well. I have seen some big bucks on this property while walking the trails. Enjoy
It is a true nature center located in the city where both adults and children an learn. A large herd of deer live there.
