We followed the ridge trail and island trail. It was a great 4 mile hike in the snow. Trails were well-marked, benches throughout, so no need to bring chairs. Definitely bring your binoculars for birding!

A great place to tour thru for a couple of hours, or to stay for a few days. Fishing, tubing and camping plentiful. Very nice beach on main area. Be sure to go around to spots and get out of car to view nature.

We're pretty proud of our state park, awarded the "Best of" for a few years. It's beautiful and you can choose to go on the Lake MI side (the big lake) or go to the Lake Hamlin side for a quieter experience. Great boat put-in too. Our favorite thing to do is to grab an innertube and float down the Sauble river from the dam at Lake Hamlin all the way to Lake Michigan. It's a lazy afternoon pleasure in hot weather and is very popular. I wish they had a tram that ran you from one end of the river to the other, but you will have to hike with your inner tube. We haven't tried the camping, but we're told it's good. You can hike to a lighthouse, bring your boat, swim or just lay on the beach. Lots of excellent hiking trails. We rented a canoe and paddled on a back lake, or they have those peddle boats too. There is so much to do. In the winter there is skiing, snow-shoe hiking and all the winter sports stuff, although we aren't snow fans. They even light the trails with lanterns. We love the state park.

Even with outside temperatures of 3 and wind chill of -26 you can find cleared roads and beautiful photographs to be taken. A number of winter athletes were enjoying the fresh powder and were seen with their snowshoes. The beach was deserted but the ice and snow were great! Free to get in during the winter! I didn't see if any of the restrooms were open this time of year but I doubt it!

This is, truly, the best State Park in Michigan. Great for camping, awesome hiking trails, well marked. Lighthouse tours available.

There were 6 of us and we really enjoyed relaxing on the river and just floating along. We saw quite a bit of wildlife. The park was well designed and clean. The beach where the river came into Lake Michigan was just beautiful with nice facilities. My only wish is that we had brought 2 cars one to leave at beach and one to take back to launch site because walking back wasn't very pleasant.

It has several miles of hiking trails and beautiful scenery. It is definitely something that shouldn't be missed if you are in the area.

We stayed in a mini-cabin for a couple nights and enjoyed the small cabin and the fire ring. The bathrooms are well maintained. There are hikes you can take all over the park and the hike to the lighthouse was a special treat.

I always enjoy Ludington State Park. It is a nice area to walk around with plenty of walking trails. It is especially nice during the fall when all of the leaves are changing.

A 7 mile long, sugar sand beach, with small dunes and little ponds sometimes stocked with pollywogs & little frogs, and minnows, in sandy bottom pools, conditions permitting. The park has 3 campgrounds, and another beautiful lake for boating, fishing & swimming and hiking around and through the state park, known as Hamlin Lake. Great recreation all around. The Big Point Sable Lighthouse is on the property and one of the best in the world (my opinion) and on occasion it is able to be climbed and photos taken from atop. You can see Great Lakes Freighters, recreation boats, fishing, sailing, everything! The state park is also close to the Nordhouse Dunes National Lakeshore and the Manistee National Forest. You will return to this area if you ever visit once, I promise!

This huge State park north of Ludington has so much to offer. Entering the park from the south allows you to drive right along the Lake Michigan beach...it seems to go on forever and is freely accessible by parking along the road anywhere. The beach is so extensive one would be hard-pressed to find a 'crowded' area even on the busiest, hottest summer days.Driving north, you eventually encounter the Park entrance booth following which are three large camping areas. Beyond the campsites, driving along the beautiful river on your right, you come to the picnic and beach area. It is here too that you find the dam where water from Hamlin Lake and the Big Sable River gets 'slowed' a bit before finding its way to Lake Michigan. The river below the dam is a fisherman's paradise as anglers young and old seek salmon and lake trout. Also, this area from the dam to Lake Michigan is perfect for tubing and kayaking. The east side of Hamlin is lined with cottages and rental resorts. Hamlin Lake is large and great for boating and fishing. So take your pick: river, big lake or BIG lake, fishing, picnicking, swimming, tubing, camping or just fun in the sun and sand, Ludington State Park will let you avoid the crowded beaches elsewhere and enjoy the abundant beauty all around.HINT: the town of Ludington [a few miles to the south] has great restaurants; and don't miss taking a walk out the pier to the lighthouse! This great destination is just another gem along Michigan's beautiful 'west coast'.

Ludington in the winter is a sleepy town that's mostly closed down for the season but the state park is open! There is an extensive trail network that is well marked with lots to see. We parked at the main lot and decided to follow the beach north to the lighthouse. I was pleasantly surprised to see how easy it was to walk along the beach as the water was almost frozen. The 5-6 mile loop took us along the beach, by the lighthouse, along the dunes, and through the forest. The park had lots to offer and I look forward to coming back to camp and enjoy the water when it's warm enough to enjoy!

This is the most beautiful state park we have ever visited! The Lake Michigan beach and beach house are stunning! The river, dam, trails, campgrounds, and nature provide something for everyone! A must see!

I travel with my entire family year round pretty much, for work. We like to stop by the state parks whenever possible and take in the scenery. This park is in a gem. Beautiful scenery, a waterfall, amazing wildlife if you look around you! I walked around for hours in amazement at all of the park. There is fishing allowed and watched several people enjoying nice catches for the day. Nice walking trails, I pushed my stroller thru most of them with ease. If you are in ludington, this place is a must see.
