edward "ted" and pat jones- confluence state park

We came here on our way home from a brief overnighter to St. Louie. I wish it hadn't been so cold and ugly but a person has to do what a person has to do. We visited this park to see the confluence of the MIssouri and MIssissippi Rivers, two of the greatest rivers in North America. Like I said, I wish I could have battled the cold weather better but it's this time of year ya know? Not the best time for being outdoors. So, I will have to come back. Good birding here and great to bring the kids for a great learning experience.

Came here on our staycation, and we were inspired! Amazing to see where Lewis and Clark started their journey so long ago. It's so cool to actually see the difference in the rivers - the muddy Mississippi vs. the clearer Missouri. Finding the spot is a bit of a trick. Our GPS led us astray, so we followed the directions on the park's website. We saw tons of interesting birds in the sanctuary that we passed on the way, too.

Good attraction - confluence of two of the largest rivers in the world. Road leading to the attraction is a gravel road. Parking for 6-10 cars available near the confluence. A short 0.25m hike to the confluence point. In the area is also a pole showing the water levels in the 1993 floods. If you are in the St. Louis area this is worth a visit.

It is really worthwhile, if difficult to visit the meeting of America's two greatest rivers. It is reached from St Louis by highway 67 turning off to the right just before the Mississippi bridge. To my surprise the spot seems little visited. There is such a contrast between the slow moving Mississippi and the tree trunk laden and discoloured waters of the Missouri. If this were in Europe there would be a great monument to mark the spot. It is truly spectacular to stand at this spot. access roads are unpaved, so might be fun in wet weather.

Standing at the point where the Mississippi and Missouri Rivers join is truly a thrill!!

We visited Confluence State Park on our way out of town (leaving St. Charles). Once you drive the dirt/gravel roads back into the park , you'll arrive at a small parking lot. There are rustic toilets available. Confluence Point can be reached by a walking a 1/4 mile marked trail. My family enjoyed seeing where the Mississippi & Missouri Rivers meet. There is also a marker showing how high the water gets during flooding. Overall, a neat destination if you're not in a hurry.

This is a great place, as long as neither the Mississippi or Missouri Rivers are flooding, reached over some remote roads. If water is low you can walk right out almost to the confluence, and see the difference in the two rivers. There's also a viewing of this spectacular confluence at Columbia Bottom Conservation Area, reached from I-270 near the Illinois-Missouri border north of downtown; I somewhat prefer that location.
