We go here every year to pick our pumpkins before Halloween and have an incredible time. They have a wonderful hay ride for free which takes you and family through a scenic view overlooking the hills of Southern Connecticut. Enjoy the highlight of a New England foliage. After your hay ride you can purchase an assortment of pies, apples, maple syrup and a host of items from their shop. Definitely a place where you should visit in the fall season.

I like the place; I went with friend driving from New York City. Unfortunately we cannot pick apples because the season is over according to them but the farm website does not provide that kind of updates. However, we did the tour around the farm in a truck ($5 dollars per person) and then we enjoy some time at the farm store, they have nice apples to sale, and plenty of things like apple pies, honey, etc.Place very clean and safe since police officers scores the place all day long. Easy access, easy parking, slightly expensive the prices but excellent location.

We drove an hour to get there. No apples. 5 usd to tour the empty orchard x person, kids from 2 years. No news on the website, no indication they had no apples. The farm in itself is ok, not too special. Last time we visit.

The orchard had been completely picked out and they didn't tell us. Instead we spent $10 per small bag to take a ride up the mountain and pick apples out of a bin….which they said were picked earlier in the day by their own workers…when in fact they were brought in from nearby farms…so we were told by one of the workers. Everything about the place was way over priced and essentially a tourist trap for people in the area or from NY that don't know any better

There are several better farm markets in our area. Silverman's does a lot of marketing towards families with children. However their products are hight priced and often not a fresh as the competition.

Silverman's used to be fairly reasonable and a fun getaway when the grandkids are in town. Now, as others have stated, it is way overpriced. For each person, ten dollars for a small bag. We had three grand children aged 5 through seven and had to pay 50 dollars, which is way too much. Then, as others have said, it is twelve dollars for each adult to take a kid to the petting zoo and four dollars for each kid...another twenty four dollars. Then, as we promised apple cider donuts, six donuts were seven dollars. They were terrible, tasting more like sugar coated bread and they crumbled as though they were old. All in all, though the kids enjoyed the trip, it was a huge expense. There are other better farms for apple picking in CT and well within NYC range, or, as my daughter does, they go to NJ for apple picking.

We used to be big fans of Silverman's Farm - it was a regular weekend outing for us since the petting zoo is a good space for an active toddler to run around. We went back last weekend and found out they have changed the pricing system for the Pick Your Own. Previously, you could buy different sized bags depending on how much produce you want to pick. Now, you MUST buy a $10 bag for each person ages 3+. So for example, a family with two parents and three children will have to pay $50. You then end up with more peaches than you could ever eat and unless you give some away they will go bad. Half of my refrigerator is filled with peaches and we only had to buy two bags! The pies are $18 and apparently not even baked on site. For the petting zoo, they are now selling small (half full) buckets of food for $5. My advice is to pass on the bucket - buying the food with quarters from the machines by the animals means you spend only as much as your kids want to feed them animals. My son decided after less than 5 minutes there he wanted to leave and we had a barely used bucket that I ended up giving away to a family with two kids so they wouldn't have to buy any food (interestingly, the woman selling the buckets of food looked annoyed that I did so, I think because now they wouldn't buy it from Silvermans).Silverman's used to be a family friendly place - now I feel it has become a tourist trap aimed at people from NYC who are coming for the day and don't know any better. We decided after this last trip that we won't be going back - we are switching to Bishop's Orchards which still allows you to Pick Your Own and just charges you for what you pick. Much more fair, and doesn't encourage you to buy more than you need.

Open all year, but a mob scene at pumpkin and apple harvest time. I think they sell more scented candles and knicknaks than fresh farm produce. Stunningly high prices.

Nowadays, too many people are not connected to nature and the land. People don't know about the four seasons and how apple trees grow. A few trips to a farm throughout the year will help people understand about this living world we are part of. This is a working farm with lots to see and do for people of all ages. When I was there it was busy but well organized with people to guide us through the orchard and show how to pick an apple without damaging the tree.

Let me start by saying Silverman farm does not mess around. They have everything done well from parking to pumpkin picking. I liked how they had plenty of apples to chose from. My main drawback was that when we were there most of the apples were already in bushels and you were not really picking the apples. I plan on bringing more friends next time.

Recently visited Connecticut and found Silverman's Farm online. We took about an hour of our time to stop in and do some apple picking. When we pulled into the well-marked parking lot, we noticed there were lots of field trips or large groups of youth getting a class-A experience. We parked and walked across the street to the store. The owner greeted us immediately (I recognized him from the website!), and we looked around the florist shop and market. They label their own jams and salsas, and they have their own delicious apple cider doughnuts and a variety of large bakery cookies. We asked the owner how we pick our own apples, and he directed us to the cashier who gave us each a bag for $8. Then we hopped on a golf cart and were driven up to the part of the orchard that was prime for picking. The girl staffer who drove us up explained which rows to choose from and talked about the difference between the apples that were in season. The view at the top of the orchard was breathtaking - it's a gorgeous farm! We were picking mostly Empire apples and just a couple red delicious - everything on the trees were in perfect picking condition (it wasn't hard to find good ones to pick!) We took our time and enjoyed the experience of being outside in the great fall weather - and those spectacular views - and were in the orchard for about 20 minutes. We started to walk back down but the owner was actually on a golf cart run and picked us up to bring us back down. We chit-chatted for a bit, and he was so sweet and grateful for our patronage. It made the experience more worthwhile! We definitely recommend this for a fun date adventure for couples, and we're looking forward to going back in a few years when we have children who we can take there, too! There are several apple farms in western PA (where we live) but they don't have pick-your-own experiences like Silverman's. It would be great for families and fun for all ages! Awesome autumn experience!

This is a beautiful farm, it's really nice to do this just 45 minutes from NYC and it's good to brave some fresh air. Meanwhile it's quiet expensive. We spend $6 for see some animals (goat, pigs..) and $8 per persons for a bag of apple we pick on the threes. This was the most funny part of the day. Also, the place is really well decorated for Halloween and the atmosphere is nice.

My husband and I took our granddaughters here for apple picking. They have a great operation but this is obviously not your typical apple picking farm. As mentioned previously, its very commercial. We each received a small bag for $8.00 each. The trees are "Dwarf" so that even small children can pick the apples. They are selling lots of everything at this place. You can buy donuts, jewelry, cookies, decorations, etc. You name it - they have it. Employees are very pleasant and helpful but this is not your real working farm. I can see lots of tourists from NYC area flocking out to the country for a real apple picking experience. As long as you know what you're getting, its fine.

Silverman's farm has been around for a long, long time and deservedly so. It's a great place solo, with your siginificant other or your entire family. Many choices and everything is fresh from their farm. How can you beat it? Go if you've never been and return if you have. You'll NEVER go wrong with a trip to Silverman's!

Okay, we bought an awesome Christmas tree there last Christmas ($130.00!), and everything else is over-priced, too. A schlocky attempt at an "old-fashioned" country-type of store one might find in the Amish country of Pennsylvania or Ohio. Difference is the Amish places are genuine!
