Where else can you get a sweet shop right next to your hotel? Great ice cream. Super espresso. Very friendly owner
This place is fantastic. I love walking in and getting such a warm welcome from the staff. It's family owned, so they're very understanding, especially when you go in with little ones. I will definitely be back soon.
I have lived in town for over 18 years and I am loving the new owners of Sweet P's. They took over mid-May. They are so warm and inviting, you do not want to leave once you walk through the doors. The food is absolutely amazing. The paninis are very tasty and quite large. I have trouble finishing them in one sitting. The ice cream is very creamy and the variety makes it difficult to chose. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone traveling through Essex. It is quite an addition to Essex Village!
I went to Sweet P's, for the first time, this summer with some friends. We were pleased to discover they carry ASHLEY'S Ice Cream (voted #1 ice cream in Connecticut for over 20 years). After trying a few flavors, we all decided to go with the same thing: Colombian Espresso Bean. The ice cream lived up to its reputation. Before leaving, I noticed they were serving soups, and sandwiches. I asked for a takeout menu and was pleasantly surprised to learn they carry an assortment of freshly grilled Italian sandwiches, otherwise known as panini. I was downtown on Main Street yesterday showing my sister the area when we decided to grab a quick bite. The only problem was it was almost 6:00 P.M. and most places close at 5:00 P.M. in Essex. I saw the big open-flag waving in front of the Sweet P's entrance and decided to give their panini a try. The charming family who runs Sweet P's made sure we felt right at home. Although the place was packed, they answered all our questions and were patient while we came to a decision. My sister went with the Grilled Apple and I went with the Chicken Pesto. We couldn't have been happier with our choices. I am not exaggerating when I say, "They were the BEST sandwiches we ever had". I genuinely couldn't have asked for a better experience. If you're in Essex, stop by Sweet P's. No matter what you have, ice cream, smoothies, soups, or panini, you'll leave satisfied. It really doesn't get better then this...
I absolutely love Sweet p's! I visited Essex with my husband and two children. We decided to stop by Sweet P's for the "best ice cream in Connecticut," but once we got inside we discovered that it was much more than just your average ice cream parlor. A lovely woman with her husband and young daughter welcomed us right away, asking if we were there for ice cream or a meal. Thats when we realized they have soups and paninis. We were really hesitant to try them, but were shocked when we saw the menu. It was filled with delicious sounding paninis. We each got our own (big mistake) because when we saw the size we realized we could have easily got two instead of four and still be full. Not to mention, they were DELICIOUS!!! I had the grilled apple and it was perfection, all the ingredients were fresh and evenly spread. I also had a bite of the chicken pesto and the three cheese grilled cheese from my husband and my children. Both were just as good. Since we were so full from the paninis, we took a walk around town and came back a few hours later for the ice cream. All I can say is, I know why its the best ice cream in Connecticut. The Essex Mud is unbelievable, and the raspberry chip yogurt is divine. The kids also enjoyed cookie dough with cotton candy crunch on top. Yum! Taking a quick look at other reviews, I honestly don't understand why people complain about the price. Come on, they have gourmet ice cream and the paninis are honestly underpriced for the size and quality. Our experience was absolutely amazing. I would definitely recommend this cute place to anyone!
Hello, we truly apologize for your experience but when a tub is a new the ice cream is very hard and the scoops actually look bigger than they are because they aren't packed down. We try our best to be consistent with the sizes. And please remember as our price board shows the waffle bowls/cones and sugar cones are an extra charge, however the cups and cake cones are free. With in regards to the drinks we never change prices from the previous owner so we took in consideration your review and we revised the water bottle prices. We appreciate your business and we hope you give us another try :)
Hello, I was just reading your review and if you were charged $8.50 for a medium in a waffle cone/bowl then there is something wrong. $8.50 is well above the cost of a large-3 scoops ice cream in a waffle cone so you couldn't have been charged that amount for a large. We hope you will stop again for a free scoop of ice cream.
Great food and wonderful customer service. I had a turkey with cranberry sauce and it was DIVINE followed by a cup of the Essex Mud. My parents and I enjoyed a bit of it.
Hello, Sweet P's has been under new management since mid May of this year so we hope you will visit us again. :)
I am writing my review as I sit and eat my Nutella panini while washing it down with a Mango Berry smoothie. They are honestly amazing! Store is super cute. You feel happy as soon as you walk in. Classic Elvis music in the background is a plus. Originally came in for just a smoothie but was happily surprised to see paninis on their menu. in terms of service: couldn't be nicer. Mom and son run the store. They are super friendly and make the customer feel right at home. I will definitely be coming back.
Ice cream overpriced, soft and runny. As for service? Manager insisted that his teenage cashier did not revive a $5 bill I handed her though I explained the entire sequence and how I told her to keep the change. Tip - ask for receipt and be careful!
The town of Essex is known for maintaining a quaint American ambiance; Sweet P's transcends this idea while remaining true to its heritage. As soon as you walk in you're taken by the Parisian music playing by means of a record player. The colors that fill the room exude happiness. The wooden floors further enhance the sailing ethos that consumes this town. Although, I myself did not have ice cream, a family in front of me told me they sailed all the way from Long Island for "Essex Mud" (the town favorite). I did however have a Oreo smoothie which hit the spot. Overall, it's a must try while in Essex.
Wziąłem sobie dziś zupę z owoców morza. Przystępna cena, a zupka była smaczna (po raz pierwszy w życiu jadłem taką zupę). Nie brakowało w niej "morskiego mięsa". Polecam!
