I have been visiting here for over 30 years. I love to hike here will miles and miles of trails. My favorites are the bicycle trail and the hike around the lake. If you are a mountain biker, they have three trails to select from Easy Medium and Hard. They have a large campground as well. There is a pool to go to if you need to cool down. I would suggest you print out a trail map on line just in case the gate is not manned. Yes they have a posted map but it is easy to get lost if you are doing a long hike. They do have marked posts showing the trails though. Daily parking fee charges which are nominal. Pocahontas also has outdoor concerts in the summer which are very popular.
Enjoy hiking in fall when the leaves are beginning to change! This park is convenient to the Richmond area.
Pocohontas State Park is one of my favorite places in VA. I did my training there for my first half marathon and I actually looked forward to running in the park. I always saw something different. Love the pool. Took my children there during the week when they were younger. So much to do.
Lacks knowledgable interpreters for field trips; my latest visit was as speaker for a Va Master Naturalist class, so review is limited in scope.
Pristine State Park. Great for mountain biking, hiking, kayak, canoe and fishing. Good primitive camp ground.
7,950 acres of natural wildlife, nice campground bring RV, Tent, Fishing, Nature Center, Bike Trails
This state park is a hidden gem near Richmond. Lovely campsites with power and water. Friendly staff, good security and helpful camphosts
This is one of my favorite places to hike/walk in Virginia. Plenty of trails. A beautiful place to hike/walk, picnic, fish, boating, swim, and camp.
Pocahontas is a wonderful park for biking, hiking, walking the dogs, etc. It is very well kept and I will definitely be returning in the future!
Second stay here at this park. Awesome time, even though it rained all weekend. Clean, respectful, family orientated park. Very well kept park with level lots and greenery for privacy. Will definitely be returning.
My daughter reserved this venue for her beautiful wedding. The ceremony was held overlooking the idyllic Beaver Lake, and the reception was held at the Swift Creek Dining Hall. For a very reasonable rate (approx. $1,000) she was able to have the venue from Friday until Sunday, and this included use of a group of camping cabins. The dining hall also has a very large, commercial kitchen with plenty of room for the caterer. We had time to decorate the dining hall on Friday, and clean it all up on Sunday, which left Saturday to enjoy the wedding! I highly recommend this venue for a wedding location. One caveat - if you have anyone that has trouble walking, please note that the distance from the parking lot near Beaver Lake to the site of the ceremony was significant, and up a hill. My mother never could have made it there, if not for the use of a wheelchair (the employee had forgotten to take it home after her recovery). It would be nice if the park would keep a wheelchair or walker at this location for future ceremonies. That being said, this venue was definitely worth every penny, and if you are looking for a wedding venue, you need to book a year in advance!
This is a spectacular place. It is spread out. My advise is if you can bring your own map do so. The one the park hands out would keep you lost in the woods. This place even has a water park for the kids during the season. They (thank goodness) have shore fishing. Lots of pick nick tables and places to grill. This is one great place for the day for the family. Lots to do. You should like nature. They also have volleyball nets, horseshoe pits. So bring along items to use there facilities. They have a camping area that looks very clean and the camp sites look great. They are graveled and ready to go with fire rings and hook ups. $4.00 entry fee to enter park and others fees for things check web site.
Very nice for a public park. We normally camp with tents, however we decided to use cabins since we it was September. The nights were cold so the cabins were perfect. They also have fire wood for sale and clean bathrooms for showers.
If your into biking or hiking then this would be a good place. The website is very misleading! The campsites are not within walking distance to the pools or lake. However, the sites are nice and spacious. If you want to fish from a bank then it is very limited, you will need a boat. They offered a twilight canoe float which was nice. The pools are open to the public as well, so it did get crowded. One pool was stagnant and closed off on Labor Day weekend. The bathhouse was clean, with a separate individual showers with lockable doors.
That one work describes it well! Great camping. Clean and well maintained. They water park is to die for. The kids love it and it is cheap compared to Busch Gardens and places like that. The only downfall, is you have to bring your own food and drinks. To drive to a place that has it is time consuming as well. However, all in all this is a great place to visit.
