Everything about this vineyard is perfect - the views, the hospitality, the fresh cheeses...and the wine. From the always unique red blends to the always perfect Vidal-Riesling, wine maker Jim Law and the Linden staff will make your visit a truly memorable experience. One of my favorite places in the state of Virginia

Superb high end wines in a scenic remote setting. Not easy to get to but well worth it. The winery and tasting room have a very California vibe and look. The vintner is acknowledged to be a guru among local wine makers. Only complaint I would have is that they don't include any of their really good vintage wines in the regular tasting - can leave a less favorable impression, especially with the rather mediocre 2011's (unless you know better and buy the better wines or pay for a special tour tasting). Linden's Hardscrabble Chardonnay may be the best white wine in the region, very similar to a mid range Puligny Montrachet.

We visited here from DC on a weekend away. Getting there was an adventure down a small country road. It was chilly, foggy and a bit rainy the day we visited. Seeming off-the-beaten-track, we were surprised when we arrived and there were a number of cars in the lot. However, once inside, they do a very good job of spacing folks out so you don't feel like you're at a big commercial winery finishing tastings in 10 minutes. We had a very enjoyable time! The gal who facilitated our tasting new a lot of the wines and the owner/winemaker Mr. Jim Law. Since visiting, I've come across his name in various publications, including Food & Wine. Having spent several years in the Bay Area, I became spoiled with California wine and can honestly say, Linden is one of two wineries in Virginia (out of about 20 I've visited) that has first-rate wines. And the best part is the price; they are very affordable. Right on par with other local wineries, though these simply taste much better. Bravo! We can't wait to return!

We have been going to VA wineries for about 20 years - this is our absolute favorite winery. Not only are the wines excellent, they serve wonderful local cheeses and fresh baguettes. The atmosphere is relaxing - nothing like sitting on the deck - or in the back room with a fire going on a cold day - with a good glass of wine and some cheese, sausage and baguettes. If you haven't visited this place, you are missing out!

We traveled to Linden Vineyard in Linden, VA--not located in Middleburg, VA as listed--Middleburg has a different zip code and is more than 20 miles East of Linden--on a glorius fall day, just as the leaves were starting to turn. The Vineyard, with 45 acres of grapes planted (its wines are made from grapes grown in its own vineyard, and not bought from other growers, as is the case with some other vineyards we have visited) and is located in a gorgeous setting of rolling farmland with mountains in the background, and their well done tasting room has a large deck looking out over a quite beautiful and peaceful vista. Of the several tastings we have done at Northern Virginia wineries, this has been the best so far; very good wines, well chosen and very tasty accompanying cheeses and meats at a reasonable price, all in quite a beautiful setting.Be careful driving the last couple of miles of twisty country road leading to the Vineyard's entry gate, and then, of the narrow vineyard road and its rocky margins.

Gorgeous drive up to the property and the view from the tasting area is equally stunning. We were running on "lazy Saturday time" and showed up about five minutes before closing, but everyone was very welcoming and let us partake in a full tasting nonetheless. We wound up buying several bottles on our way out. Our favorites are the Claret and the Rose. Definitely planning a repeat visit in the spring!

Lovely winery with wonderful selection and beautiful grounds. The wines were some of the best in the area and we will be returning.

I personally found the wines to be overrated but satisfactory. The charm is in the open, covered porch overlooking the vineyards. Nicely prepared food/dining menu offered too.

You have to drive a ways to get there, but the wines are worth it!The owner-winemaker began his career in Ohio, our home state.Wines are well made as evidenced by some being unavailable for tasting. Emphasis on wine and not the tastng room. Works for us!They do sell cheese and sausage and have a seating area. Great summer sausage!Would go back!

This is our absolute favorite vineyard in Virginia. Jim Law, the vintner is an artist and takes pride in all aspects of his work. This wine is excellent. His wines ages exceptionally well, and some of our favorites include the Avenius Chardonnay, and the Hardscrabble. His dessert wine, the late harvest vidal is amazing and turns into liquid gold as it ages. One of our favorite weekend outings is driving to Linden, getting glass of wine, and having cheese and fresh warm baguette on the deck. I'm not sure where they get those baguettes, but they are amazing. Thanks for making good wine Jim. We really appreciate it.

We went for valentines day for a wine tasting and sat out on the deck to have a cheese plate afterwards. The house red and the dessert white were our favorite but the views from the deck were breathtaking. It was a little off the beaten path to drive there especially in the snow but luckily we had 4 wheel drive so we made it! There is also a cool tour of the wine cellar that happens at noon on certain days that is worth checking out although we enjoyed just sipping our wine out on the deck a bit more. Overall a great winery with amazing views.

We loved everything ... we are now case club members. Great wine, great ambiance, and great food on the patio.

A frequent visitor of this winery, their wines are among the very best in Virginia and truly among the very best in the US. The staff is always so attentive and knowledgeable and their tasting room is a perfect atmosphere.

If you want to taste what are consistently some the best of wines made in Virginia, Linden Vineyards is a must visit and is a 4+. If you are looking for a vineyard where you can spend the afternoon drinking wine with a large group that possibly includes your dogs and kids, don’t bother stopping at Linden. Making quality wine is definitely the lone goal at Linden and, with that, the vineyard does not host events or large parties as most of the vineyards in Virginia do.We visited Linden Vineyards on a recent Sunday afternoon. Upon arriving, we decided to do both the regular and cellar tastings. The regular tasting, which cost $5, consisted of five varietal wines ranging from the light 2010 Seyval to the medium-heavy 2010 Petit Verdot to the sweet 2010 Vidal Riesling. All of these wines were good and the pace of the service was good. The cellar tasting, at $20 per person, at first seemed a bit pricey. But, after the tasting, we were both glad we spent the money. The cellar tasting was limited to eight people, lasted 45 minutes, and featured four single vineyard wines and one dessert wine. The white wine portion of the cellar tasting featured the 2011 Avenius and Boisseau Chardonnays. Both wines were very good, but not quite to the level of Linden’s flagship chardonnay from the Hardscrabble vineyard (which was not included in the tasting). The red wine portion of the tasting featured the 2009 Avenius and Hardscrabble Reds. The petit verdot based Avenius Red was maybe the best Virginia wine I have ever tasted. The Hardscrabble Red, which is more of a traditional Bordeaux blend, was very good and would probably improve with age. The final cellar tasting wine was the 2007 Late Harvest Vidal. Although, I am usually not a fan of the sweeter dessert wines, I did find this one quite enjoyable. After the tasting, we struck up a conversation with another couple who had visited many of the area wineries and we were able to swap notes with them on which ones wineries priority visits and which ones to put lower on our list. Many of the other reviews here on TripAdvisor mention the staff at Linden is rude and/or stuffy. We did not see that at all. Everyone was quite friendly and owner Jim Law was spending time at the tasting bar, answering questions from visitors.

We didn't notice glasses of wine for sale or food. However, the wines and the service were very nice. We were hesitant to even enter the premises after reading some of the reviews. I say "Give it a try and see for yourself" because we basically have no complaints.
