We went on a breezy, but slightly warm winter weekend day and they were packed inside. Luckily while sipping our tasting, a table opened up for us. The staff were very friendly and the gentleman doing our pourings for the tasting was polite and patient. Not much description was given with each pour, but the wines did taste good and were everything the staff member and the tasting sheet said. The tasting room was beautiful, but is too small for the size crowds they can attract there. The restrooms were clean and nice.Only issue we had was with the live music... they had a guitarist on the day we went. He was talented, but the music was WAY too loud, especially for the small tasting room. He should have either not used the amp or been half the volume. It made it tough for us to sip wine and chat with friends. Even the person pouring our wines had to yell and watching him answer the phone proved the music was too loud, as he had to cover one ear and walk away.Overall, the experience wasn't bad. More of a 3.5 than a 4, but we'll give a 4 over a 3.
Cooper has recently built a new Tasting room that is awesome. Their variety of wines is one of the best in the state, and you're pretty much guaranteed to find one you like, as they're all very good from top to bottom. Cooper has no problem with you bringing a picnic lunch in, so it's a great place to relax with a bottle or two, and the food of your choice. They have tables inside and out, and typically have music on weekends. It's really a nice place to visit.
My husband and I stopped in at Cooper Vineyards for a wine tasting and left with three bottles of excellent wine. They have a wonderful tasting area with deck and music on the weekends. Since we visited on Valentine's Day, they were providing flowers to the women which was a great touch. Will definitely revisit this winery
The Cooper Vineyard is known for their Noche chocolate wine. This alone is worth the trip to see the winery. This was our first trip to the winery since they moved into the new tasting room. The room has a great layout with inside and patio sitting. There was a band playing that just added to the experience. The staff is very knowledgeable and helpful.
This was our second stop of 4 on the Heart of Virginia Wine Trail and absolutely the best one we were at. It had a large tasting room accommodating people indoors and out (with California heaters). The wines were all good (some of the sweet dessert wines weren't my fav, but...that's kind of an acquired taste). The chocolate infused red was amazing. I would definitely suggest putting it on your winery tour list and plan to stay and have a glass. There are vineyards surrounding the the property with very pretty fall color to add to the ambiance. Great setting to spend a hour or so.
My husband and I decided to take a road trip to check out Cooper after hearing rave reviews of their wines and tasting room. Pulling in, we were struck by how beautiful the property looked, especially on a sunny fall day. The property would be great for hosting an event, with indoor and outdoor options. We were immediately impressed by their "green" tasting room with it's gorgeous views of the vineyards. What was maybe more impressive, was the service here. We loved walking up to a smiling face at the bar, being greeted like we were an old friend, even though we'd never been there before. Our tasting experience was pleasant, and we felt that the man who was pouring was the perfect mix of informative and friendly. He made us feel as though we could take our time. Having tasted at a number of wineries, we know that visiting on busy days sometimes results in rushed tastings. This was not the case at Cooper and we really appreciated that. After having so many friends recommend the reds and dessert wines, we were pleasantly surprised that we loved the chardonnays the most, though we left with far more than that! With a beautiful setting, friendly staff, and impressive wine, Cooper has everything it takes to make our list of favorites. We'll definitely return, but I have a feeling that we will be looking for their wines in local distributors even sooner. Thank you, Cooper Vineyards, for a wonderful tasting experience.
I was in the area and decided to stop by and get a bottle of wine for a future birthday gift. I was with my dog. So I got to this place deep into the Louisa County countryside. Very nice, peaceful, family and dog friendly. I walked my dog through the property (plenty of open space) and then put him in the car to go wine-tasting. The tasting room is big, nice, clean and elegant. $10 per tasting event, totally worth it. It is my understanding they have snacks for sale here, not so much food. The wines were really tasty and eventually I bought a bottle. You can pack a lunch and have a last minute picnic as they have several tables or just on the grass. They also have live music on weekends, nothing too loud, just appropriate for the mood.Overall, I loved it.I went back to the car to get my lunch... but the dog ate it :(
Went to a private dinner and wine tasting from the Richmond SPCA. The food was great (too much), there was a very wide selection of wine. Something for everyone at the table. The chef made last minute accommodations for a vegan guest. The best is the Vineyard is animal friendly. It was a great afternoon.
My husband and I took a short winery tour and stopped by Cooper Vineyards for a tasting. We were lucky to be there relatively early( around 11:30 am) and had a wine tasting with Marie( $10/ per person tasting fee). She is fabulous. We really liked the Pinot Grigio, the Cabernet Franc and their famous dessert wine Noche.Noche is a chocolate infused wine, it is out of this world.I purchased several bottles of wine. The price of the wine was very reasonable. The tasting room is beautiful, with great views of the vineyards. We purchased some snacks and relaxed on the patio for a little bit, it was really nice and peaceful out there.I would definitely go back to Cooper, I enjoyed the place and loved their wine.I am excited about Noche, I want to open a bottle and use some for Marie's' Cavity Maker Chocolate Cake.
Love the new building. Lots of space to stretch out and enjoy a glass or bottle. For $10 you can taste 11 wines. The tasting staff has always been delightful on my visits but Marie was particularly fantastic this past visit. My favorite wine was their Pinot Grigio. I also enjoyed their Seismic Sangria, perfect for a warm summer day.
We have visited Cooper Vineyard several times over the past few years. The tasting room is very comfortable and they almost always have music on the deck. The wines range from sweet to dry and everyone at the tasting bar has a very thorough knowledge of the various wines. They don't always have every variety because they sell out. We use their Noche dessert wine to make brownies, what a treat.Cooper is a dog friendly and kid friendly environment. Families are often sitting around on the grounds enjoying the music and watching their kids play.
We've visited Cooper many times over the years. In fact, our first visit there was before their current tasting room was built! We keep coming back, even though the winery is over an hour from our house. Yes, the wines are that good.We were on a motorcycle ride last weekend and found ourselves about 20 miles from Cooper, so we stopped by to pick up our quarterly wine club shipment. We've belonged to many wine clubs over the years, but we've cancelled all of them for various reasons - except for Cooper. That gives us an excuse to ride out and visit them at least 4 times a year. It's free to join their wine club, and you get discounts on all of their wines when you're a club member. When you pick up your wine, you get a free tasting or a glass of any wine. We were going to have some snacks and a bottle of their Coopertage Blanc out on the patio, so I got a glass of their Norton - always a favorite of mine! As usual, the staff was wonderful. They are very knowledgeable about the wines, and happy to help in any way. And of course the wine was great, too.We have been to almost 100 wineries in Virginia, and Cooper continues to be one of our favorites! Their events are fantastic, their staff is very personable, and the wines are top notch.
My husband and I visited Cooper Vineyard on a Saturday, May 10th from 12:30p - 3:00p. We packed a picnic lunch and sat outside under the overhang. They have indoor and outdoor seating. They had a man singing and playing his guitar. The entertainer was fair, he seemed more interested in talking to the audience about whatever was on his mind rather than playing music. It's good that he is interactive with the crowd, but that should not take the majority of his time. The wine tasting is $10 each, which I find expensive....however, you do taste 11 wines, I guess it works out to $1 a taste plus one more. All their wines were good but there were a few standouts that were realy good. The standouts were Chardonnay 2012, Coopertage 2011, Norton Reserve 2012, Rhapsody, Seismic Sangria and Noche. Prices for wines range from $14 - to $26. We purchased three bottles, would have probably purchased a couple more bottles if the tasting was more reasonable - $5 per person. Will definitely be on our list for a return visit. Hopefully, they will have a different entertainer, one who likes to entertain others and not himself.
Love them, this tasting room with its dog friendly persona and well educated staff make VA Wines a pleasure to experience. Every detail has been carefully thought out and your enjoyment seems paramount, the wines are presented in such a way that you feel included in the experience and part of Cooper's hospitality. Go soon, stay long, and plan to have a really great day in the country.
Though not as scenic as some of the vineyards in central VA, Cooper is well worth the drive from where I live in Nelson County. Their wines are surprisingly good (the Petit verdot is amazing!!), and that, together with the friendliness of the entire staff keeps me coming back again and again. They have a very open, sunny, beautiful new tasting room, and live music on occasion. If you have a dog, bring it along. Cooper is a very dog-friendly place! I have family and friends in Richmond, and we would much rather meet at Cooper than at one of the restaurants in the area.
