We stopped at the VA Welcome Center as we crossed the state line. The helpful people at the counter asked what we were interested in, and we told them wineries. They gave us 2 corks for Rosemont Vineyards which was not far away. The corks entitled us to 2 free tastings. It was about a 10 mile drive off the Interstate through country roads to get to the winery. The winery itself was nice with a large gift shop. The tasting counter was set up so that quite a few people could taste at once. We got to taste 6 wines and were surprised at how good they were. All of the grapes are estate grown. This winery is worth going to. I will be back.
Loved our visit here. The wines were wonderful and it was hard to select just a few. We got to taste 12 which was a great treat! Staff were very friendly, loved the dog!! Would certainly stop here again if we are in the area and I recommend it to anyone traveling nearby.
Charming little vineyard that's all about the wine. The tastings are complimentary and generously pour several different varieties. I was surprised they offer two boxed wines, very unusual in Virginia and a great value. This is very close to the Virginia side of Lake Gaston, so put it on your "to do" list when you are in the area. The Rose family is usually on sight and they have great family stories of thier Scottish heritage. Although there is not a full-service restaurant, you can enjoy a cheese plate on the deck after your tasting and linger over glass of their popular "Lake Country Red".
My third visit and the first time I went to the Wine & Art Festival held in June. The art & craft selection was terrific. As a former potter, I enjoy a good art show and appreciate high quality and varied work. The Rosemont Wine & Art fest certainly had it. It was fun to sample the delicious wines as well.
Delightful way to spend an afternoon with a glass of the Rose family excellent wine and something from their deli! Their festivals are also a fun time.
We visited the tasting room, which offered a variety of wine-oriented items and lovely jewelry for sale by local artists in addition to wines. The tasting included samples of 11 different wines. Our delightful hostess did a good job of describing the wines and suggesting pairings. Beautiful tasting room and vineyards.
Beautiful grounds as well as informative tour. The wine tasting included great information about the history of each as well as which foods were best to pair with. This was a first tour for a friend and a great one to start with.
I've visited the area for brief periods for years, little did I realize this jewel was a few miles away. Beautiful countryside, gorgeous architecture and a good selection of wine and gifts. I'll definitely visit again when I have more time to savor a full tasting and relax.
...positioned in the low hills to the North of the lake. Solid wines, though a little on the sweet side for me personally. The staff were very attentive. We visited on July 5th, and the entertainment was very good and the fireworks were a lot of fun. Can be a bit of a bear to find if you're not familiar with the lake area - I am and I still missed a turn.
The Rose family converted the farmland which was in the family since 1858 into a great vineyard with an outstanding tasting, wine production, and multi-purpose entertainment facility. We enjoy wine and often stop at winery's on travel but nothing measures up to Rosemont, whether in Sonoma California or the finger lakes region of upstate NY. We've bought a bottle or two at other pretty places only to find it mediocre when we opened it at home. Not so with Rosemont. Their wines all estate grown and of are of incredibly high quality. Plus it is just such a beautiful facility, crafted of reclaimed brick, recycled old growth lumber, and carefully situated on beautiful rolling farmland. We recently visited with guests and arrived for a tasting and tour while they were setting up for a catered wedding later that day. Despite prep underway for a big event, the staff was still inviting and friendly. They have interesting things for sale, often crafted by local artisans from oil paintings and jewelry to barrel creations and table cloths. On occasion midweek there is a friendly family dog there to greet you. The wines are fantastic! Whether you like reds or whites, sweets or dry, there is something you will want to take home. They also have a wine club for periodic purchases and a fee-based barrel club for greater engagement. Their web site announces upcoming festivals, dinners, and concerts on their beautiful grounds. This is worth a diversion off the highway if passing thru or a planned visit while at Lake Gaston.
Many variations of wines. Laid back atmosphere with nice people and very accomodating. Promotes local artistry. Food is good when they serve food. Close to Lake Gaston. Worth a trip off of I-85.
Great wines made with grapes grown on the property, excellent staff, and exquisite setting! From walk-in wine-tastings, to small intimate parties and meetings, to large weddings . . . these folks know how to do it all with a touch of class!
It was nice to tour and taste the wine...I would enjoy doing that again. The food smelled great, but we didnt eat there.
This is a very large family owned winery with a good selection of very nice wines. Tours are available most any time.
Worth a detour off the beaten path to a new, well-design winery with an experienced and talented winemaker. These folks are investing in finding and growing grapes that do well in this climate and soil--the results are great! Better than uptown tasting rooms in tonier regions of Virginia.
