This is my Park so I might be a little bias in here but, not to over sell it, it is very good for all the food vendors that come on the special occasions, the wine and beer fest is the best in Virginia, the Concerts at the Park series is really nice we go every year to the Latin Fest, the Bayou Bugaloo is awesome the Afram Fest don't fall behind, and the Taste of Norfolk is nice. some events are free and some of them you have to pay, so if you do your research you might have an AMASING time.
If you are in Norfolk and would like to take an interesting stroll, head to Town Park where you can see bronze sculptures and statues of maritime history, the Battleship Wisconsin, the Armed Forces Memorial Park which is tucked just next to Nauticus along the banks of the Elizabeth River. You will happen upon lots of runners, walkers with dogs and family, possibly catch a tall ship in port, and breathe in some fresh air and local flavor. It is fun to see how many mermaids you can spot and find your favorites!
Although not a very big park, it is a nice place to spend a few hours. There is a small cafe, comfy outdoor furniture to sit on and toys for the kids to play with. Bring a change of clothes for the kids because they'll want to play in the "jumping waters" and they will get wet.
We came upon the Town Point Park accidentally following a dinner in that area. We started strolling around the area, and followed the music to Town Point Park. We were glad we did! During the summer, they have lots of festivals, and they're mostly free! The bands that play are good. We also attended the Ribtober fest, and that was a blast! The location is great, directly by the water and it's surrounded by lots of restaurants and attractions, such as the Nauticus. Go ahead and bring the family, you won't be disappointed !
There are many special events that go on at Town Point Park. You can normally find something for all ages and cultures. family time, or couples time as well.
Was stuck in Norfolk for a day while Hurrican Arthur moved off the Outer Banks. We spent the entire day near Town Point Park, visiting the Nauticus center, taking a waterside tour of the naval shipyard (worth every penny, serious firepower!), eating at Joe's Crab Shack (and Jimmy John's up the street from Nauticus), and watching a day-late fireworks display on the waterfront. Such a cool area! And, there's a ferry to and from Portsmouth, where there is extra entertainment, food and activities for everyone.
Entertainment and events for all ages of the family. Felt safe and enjoyed some of the music provided. The time we were there it was not elbow to elbow, so we could pleasurably mosey around and enjoy the events and sights.
We have been attending the 4th of July fireworks show for the last 5 years and this year (2014) was the worst ever. Very boring and even the grand finale was nothing spectacular. Not sure if they switched companies or not but last year it was much better. Would have rather went to the one down at the oceanfront.
If you are in downtown Norfolk, you must take a walk by the waterfront and enjoy the area! It is peaceful and the view is great! You will see all sorts of boats and enjoy the mermaid statues. There a couple of nice restaurants if you are hungry. Family friendly.
The location is great, the music was fabulous..BUT...$24 for what amounted to a little over 2lbs of boiled crawfish was a ripoff and what I consider price gouging...I am from La and I was deeply disappointed that Shaggy was "shagging us"
Over the years, I have spent many weekends at Town Point Park in Norfolk. I live in Hampton and happily make the trek from the peninsula to southside to go to Town Point Park. Early June, our visit to Town Point Park was for Harborfest. My husband and I got there by noon on Friday in time for the Parade of Sails. The park looked sharp. It was kept clean and there were plenty of trash receptacles. The portable toilets were clean and stocked with supplies. As the day progressed, the crowds increased and the park was still being looked after by teams of workers. We spent the night at a very nearby restaurant and enjoyed Saturday at the Park, too. A couple weekends later found us back at the park for the Bayou Boogaloo Cajun Fest. For some reason this festival is not free. The Park had the same high quality control and children were having fun at the ground fountains, running in and out of the water jets. I miss Waterside being available to come in and cool off, and hopefully it will be rebuilt into the great place it once was.
I've attended several events in this Park but it's also a great place to go on a warm day and hang out with friends. Great location by the water and not far from shops / restaurants. Also close to local museums and boat rides.
It was just nice, there are no other words to describe it. The staff was friendly and helpful, the room was clean, and the location was great. We were there for the “bayou boogaloo".
When we went, there was an Indie festival going on and it was great! Lots of music, food, mermaid statues. We had a beautiful day/beautiful weather, thankfully. Everything was very clean and there were a lot of police, so we felt very safe.
Each Sept. there is a Moon Festival at Town Point Park. They have other festivals throughout the year, but this is my favorite. They have super awesome kung fu and Tai Chi demos, lion dancer, dragon dancing and other traditional Chinese arts. Good food and lots of fun for the whole famiy. Best part is when Jow Ga Kung Fu school performs, best I have ever seen.
