We were visiting Staunton for the Shakespeare Centre and we stumbled upon this little gem. The owner was friendly and welcoming, let me try a few of the beers before deciding on the one I wanted (The Shenandoa IPA, lovely) in a 4 pint growler. Just wish I had more time to spend in the lovely little brewery/bar.

Good location in downtown Staunton. Upstairs room, sells material for home brewing as well as selling their own brew. No food available, but based on another group that brought their own food in it looks like it is ok to do so. I tried the Sweet Stout which was not so sweet, but really hard to judge because taste buds were kind of haywire from previous meal. Friend with me seemed to like his Scotch Ale. Limited seating, but a real nice environment. Owner and brewer was on site and really friendly. Almost all beers priced the same (right around 5 dollars). Just an overall good atmosphere-love being at places where you know the individuals enjoy what they do-and if back in Staunton in the near future will certainly stop by to sample some of their other beers.

The beers were all under 6% abv which I really liked. Tried 10 beers. The rye ipa was great. Scottish ale and pale ales were also really good.

The bar is attached to the brewery and has limited seating upstairs where we bought and sampled our beers. There were several to choose from and all brewed on sight. We got into a conversation with the brewer and some locals who were just as friendly and talkative as we. Spent a great hour and if the bar was open longer we could gave made it a couple of hours quite easily.

We walked by the brewery and saw the sign for "Tap Rail." We were going in anyway but had to ask our server what that meant. Just the rail that the beer taps connected on to. My husband is the beer drinker and since we just did a wine tasting (for me) - we both had a beer (for him). Charming location near the train depot. Stop by for one!

It was early in the evening on a cold, rainy night in March when my husband and I saw the "Taproom open" sign outside of the Shenandoah Valley Brewing Company, across from the train station. The owner/brew master, Mike, greeted us with a warm smile and shared his vast knowledge of beer brewing. He even had tips for my homemade rootbeer! It did not take long for the cozy little taproom to fill up. The space is intimate but beautifully decorated in old world pub style. Photos of Ireland, England, and Scotland, lanterns, horsebrasses, black and white photos, and antiques cover the walls. Mike carries a variety of beers but my favorite was his nice creamy Hefeweizzen.
