This was on my list to visit in Alexandria. You have to visit, and I say this as we sat in the same pew that Washington sat in. We had a wonderful docent that sat with us and added a great story to the history of the church and area. I you are in town, don't pass this treasure up.

While strolling my infant granddaughter around Old Town I was encouraged to enter Christ Church by the docent, who then filled provided a very thorough explanation of Christ Church's connection to George Washington. While he was very knowledgable about the church, he was unable to answer questions about the historical role of religion in Alexandria particularly as it related to other faiths--but I may have been seeking too much information.

This is a small but beautiful church. It holds some of America's oldest history and some of the oldest headstones in the area. Don't go because you are expecting a cathedral, go for the history of how our country started.

or one of Washington's several churches. this was his church in Old Town. it has a great old graveyard in which the headstones are a history lesson, worth reading.

I'm not sure George Washington hung out here all that much, but never mind. Definitely historic and worth a visit. (It's "haunting" because of the graveyard.)

I have attended this church since 1984. I have found the members to be friendly and outgoing. The church has a very active outreach program and many forums for every group demographic. The sermons are always worth listening.

Having taken a "Ghost" tour the night before the churches cemetery was one of it's stops, i decided i would come back the next day. Glad i did. It really is a beautifully simple church with so much history connected to it. Upon entering i was greeted by a docent who offered me the tour even though she and i were the only ones in the building....a personalized tour....count me in. She was great and even showed me a few things not usually accessed by the general public. All this special attention and private guide for no charge except a donation in any amount of your choosing. The grounds, primarily a historic cemetery, are beautiful as well

Overwhelming! Old gravestones a must see. Within walking distance from the Old Colony Inn. Just beautiful.

My family and I are parishioners here, but whether you are looking for a church while on the road, or just a chance to see some amazing Alexandria history, you should stop by. The church dates to colonial times and has played host to Presidents starting with the first. Enjoy!

This is a lovely colonial church with lots of history. The pulpit is lovely, and you can sit in the Washington and Lee boxes. The guides are very friendly and will answer any questions. Ask about the cemetery's use during the Civil War.

I agree with the previous recent reviewers. Great stop after wandering around in Old Town. The gentleman who did the tour for our very small group (me, my wife and a nice young man with his infant son) was a retiree from PA. Thank you, sir! We could have sat and chatted with you in that lovely location for hours!

We happened on a tour with a wonderful tour guide. We stayed after the tour ended and he was able to add all kinds of interesting historical aspects of the church, cemetaary and a few other aspects of churches in the era.

This treasure was quiet and attractive, and the guide (presumably a volunteer) made sure that we knew everything about the place! It was great to sit in Winston Churchill's seat! Entry is free but they appreciate a contribution.

Christ Church Episcopal is a beautiful and peaceful place of worship just a block off the main drag in Old Town Alexandria. It is also a historic site, counting Washington and Robert E Lee among its famous members. If you're in Old Town Alexandria, you shouldn't miss the chance to stop in for a few quiet moments and to appreciate the historic significance of the place. They'll let you sit in George Washington's family pew and kneel at the spot where Lee was christened. The cemetery is serene as well, a short stroll through the headstones will leave you awed at the longevity of the place. It's perfect for someone with a contemplative streak. We got lucky, honestly. We arrived after closing and were just having to settle for a few pictures of the exterior. But then a church employee who was leaving for the day offered to let us in and show us around. We were very grateful for her generosity and the few minutes we had in her church. Hopefully our donation did something to show our gratitude.

What can I say as my partner and I are members of this wonderful church. Warm, caring, historical, wonderful music, community, embracing...name any positive acronym and that's Christ Church. We love this place!
