Too many people everywhere near this due to bus tours, etc. We couldn't even get close because of the ceremony that takes place many times a day.
You can look at the pictures and read the review but you will not truly understand until you experience it. It is near the top of the hill. You can walk but you may rather take the tram for easy and time. The trams are good about delivering with enough time to reach the site to see the changing of the guard. If you have time before or after this is where the Maine monument is and you should visit it. The Changing of the Guard ceremony is something you simply have to make time for if you see nothing else while you are here. The precision and dedication is amazing to see and to realize this happens everyday regardless of the weather. Again you can't describe it, you just need to make time to experience it.
You must see the changing of the guard ceremony. A great reminder of the many who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country's freedoms.
I am an Army vet of Vietnam and Desert Storm. My blood is olive drab. I understand what it means to leave a comrade behind. The changing of the guard at the Tomb is a world-class ceremony conducted every hour. It is something that, if you are a red-blooded American, you will never forget.
Must see for Washington DC trip. National Association of Postal Supervisors laying of the wreath done yearly. Touching, heart warming and unbelievably dedicated service.
changing of the guard on the hour was a sight to behold.long walk and steep incline so leave enough tome to get there or get the trolley bus at extra cost
Can someone visit this shrine and not get goose-bumps? I can't imagine how that would be possible! If you are in the DC area, you owe it to yourself and to those who have fought and died in service to our country to visit this shrine. Watching the changing of the guard and the wreath laying is beyond description and words cannot do it justice. You have to experience it to fully appreciate it!By the way, another highlight was watching the sunrise from Lee's Home!
Such an amazing place, change of the guard is a must see, very moving and spectacular views. a spectacular place.
This is a must do if your are at Arlington. The Tomb holds so much history and the ceremony is such a great way to show our respect.
seeing the tomb of the unknown, seeing the changing of the guard, walking thru the cemetery, visiting robt e lee's home will never forget our visit...appreciate the sacrifices of the brave men and women who served our country.
I have been here several times and each time come away with a lump in my throat. I always stop when I visit the graves of my Brother and Grandson, and a couple of others that I served with. Yes, I am retired Army of 21 years. These young soldiers that achieved the honor of Tomb Guards, are outstanding, and the ceremony shows tradition, reverence and respect for those entombed there. This is one attraction in DC that I highly recommend for everyone, and I recommend seeing the changing of the guard ceremony.
This is a must see for all. Any age will be mesmerized by the soldiers marching, guarding and saluting at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. My husband and i just enjoy watching the ceremony and how dignified it is.
We live in a nation where we honor our fallen heroes by maintaining a 24-hour guard over our unknown KIA, 7 days a week, rain, snow, and sun. Watching a young Soldier maintain his post during a snow-storm, performing precise movements even after the crowd has left filled me with great pride and appreciation. Go. Silence and Respect.
One soldier standing watch. His manor and routine show respect for those who are gone but are not forgotten. Even in the cold winter air it was impressive and time well spent.
I always stop by here when in the Dc area with a bit of time and just silently watch the guards marching their protocol routes. It is a clear reminder that it is duty and honor the made our country what it is today. It is the centerpiece of the cemetery and many people come just to watch the men march . It is very awesome(the only word that I can think of to describe it)Do not miss this place.
