Step through the door and into a speakeasy of the 20s! Excellent atmosphere, craft cocktails, and eclectic seating. I visited as a guest author of some young book club readers and would definitely visit Paschall again! The vibe was conducive to memorable evenings and intellectual conversations!

This Hungry Detective was in Denton, TX on business and discovered this little hole-in-the-wall buried upstairs above Andy's on the square in Denton. It was a Saturday night and LSA was jam packed so this old vice cop got curious and started exploring the area. I literally stumbled into Paschall Bar as I almost climbed the steps to the door man. He took my drivers license and said this a private club as he swiped it through some machine. He then says up the stairs and to the left and have a good time. Talk about apprehension as I crested the steel door and entered a living room type feel and observed a young girl reading poetry. I made a b-line to the bar area where I was met by Thomas the bartender. Thomas was the best bartender...and I have travelled all over the world. I ask him to make me his specialty drink "The Fuzzy iris" named after his grandmother...a truly original drink(martini), with ginger, egg whites and garnished with a lemon. There were college students reading books and interesting conversation and live poetry being read from the open microphone...quite a contrast to the backwards woods redneck bars of Western Pennsylvania. If your in Denton check out Paschall Bar for a true liberal experience. VERDICT: Thomas(bartender) is the best of the best!!! He is creative and can concoct any drink brought to your imagination.
