Good food, good service, friendly staff, do not believe other picky reviews. Couldn't ask for better. Try the buttermilk pie!
Small town, only 1 diner open during my trip but so peaceful! Food was ok, locals were friendly, near Garner State park and great Hil Country!
While traveling thru the hill country we decided to take a Sunday drive to Utopia tx We are big fans of the Robert Duvall Lucas Black golf movie Seven days In utopia and wanted to visit the town where it was filmed very small beautiful peaceful. We found the golf course which isn't marked so it took some looking found the tree where they painted And cemetery, cafe and the church we didn't go to the cafe as it was time for church to let out and it looked like all the locals were headed there, perhaps another time it was worth the trip Love that town
Utopia is nice, relaxed small town Texas. It's close to several good spots (Lost Maples, Garner State).
This little town offers a unique golfing experience (Golf Utopia) that we first saw in the movie filmed there. There are 2-3 good restaurants, a great B&B, a nice antique shop and a decent general store. In each and every place we visited, we were welcomed by the friendliest and most helpful people. This is a perfect location from which to visit Lost Maples, Garner State Park and many other nearby attractions and little towns with their own charms. The only negative was that we found only one dining spot open for dinner.
Love to visit this place, visit the museum, and go to other places there. It is a beautiful little town and great people that I accidentally found that I was indirectly related to. Everyone needs to experience Utopia. Robert duval made a fil there and of course the places were easily identified in the movie. Will be back very soon.
The Utopia Music Festival is a great way to spend the weekend listening to a variety of bands and enjoying to community of camping, the stars and being where the single focus is on having fun. This year's Utopia Fest will be September 19 - 21st.
The town is very quaint and small town Texas. There isn't much to do if you are looking for something outside of wide open spaces, wildlife and parks. But if you are looking for those things and just beautiful hills and landscape, then the area is what you are looking for. We rented a cabin. Went to Lost Maples State Park, Devils Sinkhole, Utopia City Park, and the Lost Maples Cafe and basically just unwound and relaxed. It was great!
A quiet town. We did not visit any of the shops, but stayed at Utopia on the River. Next time we will make reservations for the Laurel Tree Restaurant as they were full.
Not to much to do there- watch Fireworks on July 4- they are the best.Eat at the Cafe and that's about it.
What an excellent place for a get away to the beautiful Hill Country in Texas. We enjoyed every minute of our stay. The workout room /fitness center was provided by God! We saw so much wildlife in the area and really enjoyed our morning breakfasts generously provided by Cheryl and Karyn. We would highly recommend this place to anyone. We plan to tell our friends.
The whole area has magnificent views of the hill country. We liked the wildlife in the area which included lots of deer and wild turkeys. We enjoyed Lost Maples Nature Area and had time permitted wer only a short distance from Garner State Park. I cannot think of anything I disliked about this area.
The people, atmosphere and surrounding were so tranquil! Would and have recommended this place to everyone I know!
Wife and spent a weekend recently @ a B&B between Utopia and Tarpley called the Fig Tree (excellent place - shame they aren't on TripAdvisor), and we visited Utopia and the surrounding area. My parents owned a small plot of land in the Thunder Creek development when I was a kid, and I spent a lot of time out there on weekends learning to fish, hunt, etc. Fond memories. Utopia is set in the gorgeous Sabinal Canyon - beautiful hills and views. The tranquil, cypress-lined Sabinal River runs through the town, and the nearby Frio River offers lots of water sport activity. Love Utopia - wish I hadn't told my parents to sell that 30 acres!
We've been through this town twice and fallen in love both times, with each other, and with the town and its residents! Highly recommend if you want to escape to a simpler life and decompress!
