We would like to thank you for visiting the Mill Iron Ranch. We are deeply saddened that your experience was just an average meal and nothing less than superb. We truly take reviews extremely serious because we are a family run business and strive to be the best! Due to there being no snow in Jackson Hole we have resorted to the wagon instead of the sleigh this is a big bummer and we truly wish we had snow to make it possible but weather is way out of our hands. We as well are effected by the $80 cab fair for you to come out here, however we are saddened that you reflected the cab fair upon us because the taxi fairs are out of our control. We always highly suggest renting a car due to extreme cab fairs. We thank you for taking the time to come visit and apologize for your experience and hope you future vacations are what you hoped they would be.Thanks,Mill Iron Ranch
We attended a wagon ride/dinner at the ranch on Valentines Day. What a fun time! Real cowboys cook incredibly thick, delicious steak dinner. This is a family business, with everyone pitching in, including the kids who distributed cupcakes and chocolate dipped strawberries for dessert. Live music rounded out an awesome, real west evening. Will definitely be back!
Enjoyed a sleigh ride around the working ranch as Toby told us all about the area, his home and family. Dinner was the largest T-bone I had ever seen with the trimmings.
After a pleasant horse drawn sled ride around the ranch a welcomed meal of chips, salad and the star of the show a 36 oz T bone steak cooked to perfection. Great family operation with father, mother, son and daughter their to make the experience memorable.
Went to the Mill Iron Ranch for the sleigh ride and dinner. Fun sleigh ride and dinner was great!! One of the best steaks we have ever had. One of the largest also so unfortunately a lot of food was wasted. Would recommend this attraction for a special treat.
Our first night in Jackson Hole and it was the BEST! We chose Mill Iron Ranch because of the recommendations of the hotel we were staying at. They liked this dinner sleigh ride because it was a family who had lived in the area for many years...So happy we chose Mill Iron Ranch. The sleigh ride was beautiful, informative, and fun. The Elk decided to stay way out away from the ranch that night, but it didn't matter, there is plenty of beautiful scenery and horses to look at. Everyone who works there is family and have generations of history to tell you about. The T-Bone Steak was the best we have ever had. Melted in your mouth! The atmosphere was so layer back and family oriented. After the sleigh ride, you were able to walk around and visit and look for wildlife out the window, have a drink at the bar, and warm up next to the wood burning stove while the family prepared our steak, corn on the cob, salad, and baked potato. They provided crackers and cheese, chips and dip, and hot chocolate while we were waiting. Everyone was so polite and hospitable, you felt like you were having a family gathering rather than a dinner out of town. The price for dinner and the sleigh ride was less than we paid all week at the high priced popular restaurants in town. LOVED IT!
we went as a family. Chancy, Mrs. Chancy and cobe were the epitome of down home hospitality. Cobe took us on the sleigh ride and gave us in site into wild life in Wyoming. We saw deer and elk, beautiful horses , donkeys, mules and got to take great photos.Back at the lodge Chancy grilled up one and a half inch steaks so tender you could cut them with a fork and so flavorful no one even consider steak sauce, we had a fresh salad, and the most perfect baked potato this side of the tetons. The cake for dessert was rich and most .We had enough left to take home. All of us enjoyed our visit there and recommend it highly. You won't find better hostsOr more down to earth, true to life folks anywhere.
Went on the 2 hour trail ride with Justin. My wife daughter and I had the time of our life. Plently of wildlife and an incredible view at the top We stayed for the dinner that was equally spectular. Justin gave us an oral history of the ranch and the people who run it. This is the real deal with a family run operation since 1921. The owners Chancy and Kim couldn't have been nicer and Justin is a hell of a horseman. Great value and a highlight of our trip to Yellowstone and Grand Teton
Never wrote a review. This was the best adventure ever! Horseback riding at its finest. The view was amazing. Spectacular! The staff is probably the nicest people I have ever meant. Our guide was extremely kind and knowledgable. I would totally recommend the ride and dinner. The best steak and fixins I have ever had. Please consider this as a must if you go to Jackson.
Great guide. Super horses. Trail ride to top of mountain unforgettable. Best time of all activities in Jackson, WY. Glad I lost weight. You cannot weigh Over 230lbs. Recommend this. Take your camera. I used my GoPro. Unbelievable views!!
I had the opportunity to use the services of the Mill Iron Ranch over the past years. I have always had a great experience. The Wheeldon's always give you their very best. Recently I had a group of 10 adults out to the Mill Iron for horseback riding and dinner. Chancy, Kim, Coby, and all staff were exceptional. They are attentive to all needs of guests, and we had an amazing, and beautiful ride.. We are all past middle age. Chancy & Kim made sure we were all comfortable, and had a wonderful and memorable experience. Dinner was fantastic and more than we could eat. Kim made sure we took the steaks home. I highly recommend the Mill Iron Ranch for all who want a memorable experience, views, and wonderful meal. WHEN IN JACKSON HOLE AREA DO NOT MISS GOING TO THE MILL IRON RANCH!!
The last time me, my wife and our son were on horses we were at a dude ranch in southwestern Utah in 2003. Since we were all going to be in Wyoming on Vacation together we definitely decided that a horseback ride was a must!! My wife found the Mill Iron on the internet and through TripAdvisor reviews. We signed up for the two hour ride (that ended up being about 2 hours 20 minutes). Kim Wheeldon (1-307-733-6390, kimmillironranch@gmail.com, www. millironranch.net) was very helpful although hard to reach at times. Mill Iron Ranch is located 10.5 miles south of Jackson on Highway 89-191. From the Albertsons grocery store, go straight south 10.5 miles. You will see a Blue and White Highway sign (we never did see this sign) on the right hand side of the Highway that say Mill Iron Ranch, Tourist Activities. Turn left onto Horse Creek Road, and come up that road 1.2 miles (unimproved dirt road) where you will see the Mill Iron Ranch entrance gate. After we arrived, we checked in and took care of our bill (Kim accepts Credit Cards). The 18% gratuity was added into the bill even though we were a party of 3 (I had no problem with that). They hooked us up with three horses that were somewhat matched to 1) our lack of skill as riders and 2) ours sizes. They have a weight limit of 230 pounds. Our group was led by a very nice and pretty cowgirl (sorry, I forget the name). She led us out of the ranch an up we went (about 2000 ft above the ranch site). The ride was mostly up a narrow, rocky and many times muddy trail that meandered through the forest. We stopped at times to rest a bit. There was a stretch before the high point of the ride that we went across a slope that was very steep on one side (could be very anxiety producing). At the top we were grouped with our families and the guide took pictures. There is no getting off of the horses and we brought water with us (the ranch provides little sacks to carry the water). You know what they say about "What goes up" - well after about 10 minutes we headed back down via a different route. Going down was more difficult on me then going up. I should have worn leather gloves as the trees and brush were in close proximity to the trails. At times I had to push off the tree to provide clearance for my leg. One time I had to avoid some branches and the back of my hand got cut up in the process. I survived!! Overall our horses were very gentle. After we got back to the corral we were helped off the horse (my legs didn't want to work for a few seconds).
My daughter and I took a half day ride. The horses were sound and confident. I rode a nice Dun gelding named "Roy". He was just superb! BEST trail ride I've ever been on. We have horses and ride a lot. This half day ride is not for sissies, but the views are worth it! The staff and Kim & Chauncey were wonderful. I highly recommend this ranch for your next visit to Jackson Hole, WY.
After having read the other reviews, some mentioned that the service was not "all that". However, I found the service to be perfectly acceptable. This is a horse ranch, not a hotel with a concierge. You're walking in dirt, getting on a horse and the service is absolutely inline with the entire experience. The ride was done after a week of rain so the trail was muddy in places. The weather at the time was perfect. Understand these horses are climbing up a mountain. If you have never been on a horse, perhaps this shouldn't be your first time. I also read about other reviews how narrow the trail is. A complete over reaction by someone who likely has never been on this type of a ride. Riding a horse up a mountain is different than just sitting on a horse walking on level ground. You need to know a bit about balance and helping the horse. The trails are narrow so it's not easy for the guide, who is in front, to get to the back to help someone not really in control of the horse. Horses have brains and sometimes use them, and not in the way we want them too. It was an awesome view from the top of the mountain. There were only 4 of us on this ride. Others left because of the conditions of the trail. I found the horses to be well maintained. The guide was great. The staff very friendly and helpful. If you are looking to run the horses or gallop, this is not the place as the ascent begins immediately after leaving the ranch. Wildlife is in abundance. It was a great 2 1/2 hours - and a little stiff the next day. Don't wear your best shoes for this outing.
We recently had 38 people horseback riding over 2 days, but we also had a large evening event with 113 people. The horseback riding was a great mountain ride with amazing views that all enjoyed. Our dinner was wonderful with more food than most could eat! Great experience all around!!
