I really enjoyed the museum. The cost was very affordable. The new exhibit about Albuquerque was really nice. I could have spent more time there. Kids were hungry though.

This is very small art museum with some fairly specific galleries. They do have a piece by Andrew Wyeth that is beautiful. The best part about this museum is the sculpture that surrounds the building (which is truly lovely architecture in and of itself). Add to that walking distance to Old Town Albuquerque as well as the Exploratorium and it's a great day spent in a good company of works.

Great museum. Be sure the ticket seller knows what they are doing. We purchased all access passes... which should give us all access. We clarified this with the ticket seller who assured us, our tickets included the "movies" and all else- the price is that high because of this.... so off we go,... come time to go the the dynamax theaters and guess what... nope- all access does not include these.... argh... despite the fact that the ticket seller confessed she had indeed told us specifically those were included, management made no offer to comp us or do anything at all for us, just a shoulder shrug and "sorry" what a piece of work.

As a local, it had been many years since I last visited the Albuquerque Museum (of Art and History). It has changed and improved and is a prize the community can be very proud of with an interesting mix of art and history exhibits. I especially liked the public art exhibit, with images and discussions of the 100s of public art all around the city, many being sculptures right in the museum's front yard and many others that I pass driving around. These are fascinating pieces that, if I saw them in Europe, I'd be taking loads of photos. Time to appreciate what we have right here! It was wild seeing some familiar old items in the Rad Gadgets exhibit, and I will get back for the Visualize Albuquerque exhibit. We started our visit with a terrific light lunch at the Slate Street Cafe location within the museum. Next time I'll allow time to check out the unusual offerings in the museum store. With so much interesting stuff to check out, admission a pittance and free on some days, I need to get back much more often.

I was supposed to visit Petroglyphs National Monument, but a snow storm closed the road. So I decided to head to Old Town. You can park here, pay the $4 entry fee, and then keep your car there until 5pm while you wander around Old Town. I mostly went in to kill time but was pleasantly surprised by what I found. There is a bit of everything here. I am more of a "ancient pottery shard and bone whittled into a spear" type but the sculptures of pollen grains, the life size wooden coyote, and learning about a style of art called detonation art (they blow explosives over the metal to create the designs) made this a very enjoyable 90 minutes. People who like paintings ( I even saw a few I really enjoyed) and such could spend twice that in there.

We went here on our way to old town and never made it to old town since this museum was so interesting. Worth the side trip - and don't forget the natural science museum close by ( we didn't get to see it, but will now that we know it is there). And don't forget to validate your parking lot ticket - it will save you more than the admission price.

The sculptures that everyone can see outside were outstanding! Some were historic, come were funny; we loved every one. Inside, we fully enjoyed the many different types of art.

Within one block of the historical Albuquerque Old Town, this is a great museum. Many different galleries of art, photography, history and a new gallery of "Rad Gadgets". A great place to visit and learn.

The Albuquerque Museum is a great attraction in Albuquerque, New Mexico. I have BA in History, and MA in Eduction. Thus, the museum was PERFECT for me The Museum in addition to the world class exhibits, the Museum offers many programs including educational, live performances in the amphitheater, guided tours, Sculpture Garden, and Old Town, Museum Store, and the Museum cafe. The Museum hours are 9:00 - 5:00, Tuesday through Sundays. The Museum is closed Mondays, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. and New Years Eve. The General Admission New Mexico resident, $2 Senior 65+, $3 Adult 19-64, $3 Teen 13-18, and $1 4-12. The General Admission out of state $2 Senior 65+, $4 Adult 19-64, $4 teens 13-18, $1 children 4-12. There are times when the Museum is free, check out the web site for the list. Check the web site for any changes in fees, hours, events, and programs. But most of all enjoy, have fun, and learn.... The museum is first class architecturally. We thoroughly enjoyed the interesting exhibits throughout. However, the small written descriptions that one normally finds adjacent to each work in a fine museum are ludicrous. Why not simply provide information regarding the artist and the time period in which it was created? Here, someone has added their own 'interpretations' of each work--some of them so liberally biased that we found ourselves laughing out loud in amazement. They appeared to be written by a freshman at an eastern college such as Williams or Dartmouth. Good schools both, but lacking in the even-handedness that one acquires from actually living and working in the real world.
